Job Description and Performance Standards

Title:                          Imaging Ultrasound Technologist 554196225

Department:            Imaging

Reports To:              Senior Imaging Ultrasound Technologist

JOB SUMMARY

Performs ultrasound examinations on patients of all age populations contributing to the efficient operation of the department and promoting Hamilton Medical Center's philosophy, to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care.  Assists in the clinical training of radiologic technology students.  Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.  Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and assess data reflective of the patients’ current status in relation to their age specific needs.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education:               Minimum 1 year certificate from an accredited sonography program. Equitable qualifications to be considered but not limited to: 2 year degree or certificate from an accredited school of radiologic technology, with experience as a sonographer.

Licensure:                ARDMS, ARRT (S) or ARRT with extensive on the job experience. Required to maintain continuing education credits as established by the appropriate licensing agency, CPR Required.

Experience:             Prior experience preferred, extensive on the job training.

Skills                          Ability to operate ultrasound equipment.  Ability to communicate with patients, visitors, and employees within the organization. Ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patients’ needs that are age appropriate.  Ability to select proper instrumentation/supplies appropriate for age group of patient served.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Worker is required to be on feet most of the day and work is moderately heavy.  Extensive amounts of assisting, pushing, pulling, and lifting patients is required.  Worker must be able to adjust routine to accommodate patient or department without affecting departmental flow. Worker must adjust to performing routine, repetitive tasks under specific supervision. Worker is required to take standby-call for after hour procedures. Worker will work in a Radiation area. Associate will be exposed to blood, body fluids, and potentially hazardous chemicals.
