Job Summary and Qualifications

The Sonographer supports ultrasound services including adult and pediatric general, vascular, neuro, and routine GYN exams as well as ultrasound-guided biopsies. Job duties include on-call and holiday coverage rotations. As a 24/7/365 department, circumstances may require employees to temporarily work a shift other than those for which the application is made. To ensure appropriate patient care and departmental coverage your shift assignment may be changed, or altered, as directed by the department manager. We will provide as much notice as possible for these changes, but emergent staffing coverage and call assignments can occur.

  • Performs Ultrasound exams following protocols and in a timely manner, ensuring a high quality of care. 
  • Competent use of all machines (i.e. GE Logiq E9, GE Logiq S8, Parks Flo) 
  • Familiar with exams in all service lines to include neuro, first trimester OB, vascular, general adult and pediatric ultrasound, and ultrasound-guided biopsies (thyroid, lymph nodes, etc).  
  • Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of probes according to specifications. 
  • Compliance with quarterly targeted metrics (i.e. Kronos, HealthStream, PACS, etc) 
  • Takes patient history and retrieves any necessary orders or prior images. 
  • Provides patient history/signs/symptoms appropriate to the exam to the radiologist 
  • Appropriately completes documentation 
  • Coordinates patient flow and checks daily list to ensure all exams are complete. 
  • Informs patient about procedure and answers questions. 
  • Interacts and professionally communicates with physicians, patients and family members. 
  • Contributes to after hour coverage through on-call shift rotations as needed 
  • Contributes to holiday staffing coverage through rotation (one warm weather and one cold weather holiday) 
  • Maintains all licenses, certifications and accreditations required as outlined in Job Qualifications 
  • Daily upkeep of departmental work areas (cleaning, stocking, etc) 
  • Promotes customer service initiative by adhering to the ICARE values 
  • Supports and participates in quality (QI) and performance improvement (PI) plans. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of human growth and development, assessment, range of treatment, and care of patients appropriate to the ages of patients served. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Graduate accredited RDMS or ARRT program REQUIRED 
  • ARDMS registered or registry eligible. ARRT (SON) will be considered 
  • If not registered upon hire, candidate will be required to attain certifications in ARDMS within 6 months of hire date. 
  • Vascular (RVT or RVS) ultrasound PREFERRED
  • Current BLS REQUIRED 
  • Additional registries may be required in the future as service lines are added at the facility.
