    Job Description:

    Ultrasound Technologist – PRN / On Call Only

    Location: AdventHealth Ottawa, Kansas
    Schedule:PRN / On Call Only

As an Ultrasound Technologist, you will play an important role in helping patients through a calm, reassuring imaging experience while providing high-quality diagnostic studies that support accurate diagnosis and treatment.

    The Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic sonographic procedures to support accurate diagnosis and patient care. This role prepares and positions patients, acquires high-quality images for radiologist interpretation, documents exam findings clearly and accurately, and performs interventional ultrasound procedures as needed. The Ultrasound Technologist also supports a safe, efficient, and compassionate imaging environment while following AdventHealth policies and all applicable regulatory standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations according to provider orders and established department protocols.

    • Verify patient identity, confirm exam appropriateness, and obtain relevant clinical history before scanning.

    • Position patients and equipment appropriately to obtain optimal images, waveforms, heart rates, and related diagnostic data.

    • Explain procedures clearly and calmly to patients while maintaining comfort, privacy, and cooperation throughout the exam.

    • Acquire and analyze ultrasound images and data to produce complete studies for radiologist interpretation.

    • Complete accurate and timely ultrasound worksheets that support radiologist review and dictation.

    • Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic medical record and PACS systems.

    • Operate ultrasound equipment safely and appropriately while adapting protocols for patients across the lifespan.

    • Practice infection prevention standards, including appropriate use of PPE and approved disinfectants.

    • Sterilize transducers as needed to maintain hygiene and safety standards.

    • Ensure exam rooms are clean, stocked, organized, and ready for use, and notify appropriate personnel when supplies are low.

    • Collaborate with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to promote appropriate imaging and continuity of care.

    • Perform interventional ultrasound procedures as required by departmental needs and scope of practice.

    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Detailed knowledge of ultrasound physics, cross-sectional anatomy, vascular anatomy, and Doppler techniques.

    • Ability to perform independent ultrasound procedures to radiologist standards.

    • Ability to use computer systems for data entry, retrieval, and documentation.

    • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

    • Ability to learn and use radiology software and PACS applications quickly.

    • Ability to read, write, and speak conversational English.

    • Strong patient care and communication skills across infant through geriatric populations.

    • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, families, physicians, and staff.

    • Ability to explain procedures and respond to patient questions with professionalism and compassion.

    • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, patient care, and medical ethics.

    • Ability to recognize subtle differences between healthy and pathological findings.

    • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment with flexibility, reliability, sound judgment, and initiative.

    • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and ages.

    • Commitment to continuing education and maintaining required registries and licenses.

    • Experience with specialized sonographic procedures such as Breast, Prostate, OR, Pediatric, Neuro, and Vascular ultrasound is preferred.

    • Additional language skills are preferred.

    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED — Required

    • Associate Degree — Preferred

    • Technical or Vocational School — Preferred

    • Graduate of an ARDMS accredited program — Required

    Experience

    • One year of work experience — Preferred

    Licensure & Certifications

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) — Required

    One of the following ARDMS certification registries is required:

    • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer – Pediatric Sonography (RDMS-PS)

    • Registered Technologist – Breast Sonography (RT(BS)(ARRT))

    • Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS)

    • Registered Technologist – Vascular Sonography (RT(VS)(ARRT))

    • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)

    • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer – Abdomen (RDMS-AB)

    • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer – OB/GYN (RDMS-OBGYN)

    • Registered Musculoskeletal Sonographer (RMSKS)

    • Additional certifications may be required based on departmental or state requirements.

    $29.04 - $54.02
