Job Description

Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures for obstetric and gynecologic patients, providing high-quality diagnostic images for physician interpretation and supporting the delivery of safe, timely, and compassionate patient care. Performs a variety of OB/GYN ultrasound examinations, including pelvic, transvaginal, and obstetric imaging, in accordance with established departmental protocols and applicable quality standards.

The Ultrasound Technologist works collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team across multiple ambulatory OB/GYN practice locations.

  • Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations for obstetric and gynecologic patients in accordance with established protocols and provider orders.
  • Performs pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound examinations and other OB/GYN-specific imaging within the technologist''s scope of practice and demonstrated competencies.
  • Obtains and reviews relevant clinical and obstetric/gynecologic history to ensure the appropriate examination is performed.
  • Ensures accurate measurements, annotations, images, and supporting clinical information are appropriately documented and available for physician interpretation.
  • Recognizes findings requiring timely communication and follows established procedures for escalating concerns to the appropriate physician or clinical team.
  • Provides compassionate and sensitive care while maintaining patient privacy, dignity, and comfort during intimate ultrasound examinations.
  • Effectively communicates examination procedures and expectations to patients and addresses questions within the scope of the technologist''s role.
  • Collaborates with physicians, APPs, nurses, medical assistants, and administrative staff to support efficient patient flow and continuity of care.
  • Maintains competency in applicable OB/GYN ultrasound procedures and participates in required education, quality assurance, safety, and compliance activities.
  • Maintains flexibility to provide coverage at multiple OB/GYN practice locations based on departmental and patient care needs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

POSITION SCHEDULE AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This is a 24-hour-per-week position that requires regular travel between multiple OB/GYN ambulatory practice locations based on operational and patient care needs.

The position''s regular work schedule will include coverage at the following locations:

  • GYN Specialties - Blue Back Square: One scheduled day per week
  • Charlotte Hungerford GYN Clinic: One scheduled day per week
  • Women''s Ambulatory Health Services (WAHS): Every Friday

The Ultrasound Technologist must be willing and able to travel between assigned practice locations. The specific schedule and location assignments may be adjusted based on departmental and operational needs.

The position also requires flexibility and availability to pick up additional shifts, as needed, to support ultrasound coverage across the various OB/GYN practice locations, including coverage for staff absences, vacations, leaves, and other operational needs.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - ARDMS or RDMS.
  • Minimum of 2 years'' experience in clinical OB scanning preferred
