    Description

    About the role

The Ultrasound Transducer Engineer at iSono Health will be a hands-on contributor responsible for the characterization, evaluation, and electrical integration of ultrasound transducers within our imaging system.

This role sits at the intersection of acoustics, electronics, and system performance, and is critical to ensuring high image quality, system reliability, and successful product development. You will work closely with imaging, hardware, and software teams to translate transducer behavior into optimized system performance.

This is a high-impact execution role focused on building, testing, and improving real-world hardware.

    Key Responsibilities

    Transducer Characterization & Evaluation

    • Perform detailed acoustic and electrical characterization of ultrasound transducers
    • Design and execute test protocols using lab equipment
    • Analyze performance across operating conditions and identify opportunities for improvement
    • Work with external vendors and internal teams to evaluate and refine transducer performance

    Electrical Engineering & Hardware Integration

    • Own the electrical interfacing and signal chain associated with the transducer
    • Support debugging and optimization of signal integrity, noise, and system-level performance
    • Collaborate with hardware engineers on front-end electronics, data acquisition, and system integration
    • Contribute to design decisions that impact transducer performance within the full system

    Imaging System Support

    • Work closely with the imaging scientist to understand how transducer characteristics affect image quality
    • Support beamforming and system parameter tuning from a hardware and signal perspective
    • Assist in troubleshooting imaging artifacts and performance issues tied to transducer behavior

    Validation, Testing & Documentation

    • Develop and maintain test and validation frameworks for transducer and imaging performance
    • Support verification and validation (V&V) activities aligned with product and regulatory requirements
    • Document test methods, results, and conclusions clearly for internal use and regulatory submissions

    Design Transfer & Product Engineering

    • Partner with manufacturing and cross-functional teams to ensure successful design transfer to production
    • Investigate field and manufacturing issues using root-cause analysis and implement improvements
    • Contribute to product reliability, performance consistency, and cost optimization efforts

    Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Work closely with imaging, software, QA, and product teams to ensure cohesive system development
    • Communicate findings clearly and contribute to technical decision-making across teams
    • Support alignment with design control processes and quality standards

    Required Qualifications

    • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field
    • 3+ years of hands-on experience with ultrasound transducers or similar hardware systems
    • Strong experience in transducer characterization and testing
    • Solid understanding of ultrasound physics and beamforming fundamentals
    • Experience with electrical engineering concepts, signal chains, and hardware interfacing
    • Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, function generators, measurement systems)
    • Ability to troubleshoot and debug system-level hardware and signal issues
    • Strong documentation and communication skills

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience working with ultrasound vendors or custom transducer development
    • Familiarity with acoustic measurement setups (e.g., hydrophone testing, phantom studies)
    • Exposure to MATLAB and Python for data analysis and visualization
    • Experience in medical device development, including design controls, V&V, and regulatory documentation
    • Experience in fast-paced or startup environments
