Job Description
General Purpose of Job:
Supervises daily Supply Chain Courier Services operations across the University of Michigan Health-Sparrow with responsibility for service execution, staffing, employee performance, safety, regulatory compliance, and customer service.
Provides frontline leadership for a large union-represented courier workforce across multiple sites within the region, and ensures the safe, accurate, and timely transportation of laboratory specimens, pharmaceuticals, supplies, mail and documents, equipment, sterile instrumentation, temperature-sensitive materials, and other approved healthcare materials.
Regular travel between UM Health-Sparrow hospitals, clinics, off-site facilities, courier locations, and other supported sites is an expected and essential function of this position. The Supervisor must be able to travel between locations during the workday, including on short notice when operational needs require.
Monitors operational performance, resolves daily service issues, and implements established processes and approved improvements to maintain reliable and efficient courier service.

Job Requirements
General Requirements • Valid driver's license and ability to meet Health System driving requirements. • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid DOT Medical Certification. • Ability to obtain and maintain a chauffeur's license. Work Experience • Experience should include demonstrated responsibility for coordinating employees, operational activities, workflow, service delivery, or comparable frontline leadership responsibilities. • Previous formal supervisory experience in transportation, logistics, courier services, distribution, healthcare operations, or a comparable frontline operation preferred. • Experience supervising employees in a union-represented environment or working within a collective bargaining agreement preferred. • Healthcare courier or healthcare logistics experience preferred. • Experience transporting or managing time-sensitive, regulated, temperature-controlled, or chain-of-custody materials preferred. Education • High school diploma or GED and a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in transportation, logistics, distribution, courier operations, healthcare operations, supply chain, dispatch, or a related operational field; OR • Associate degree in business, supply chain, logistics, transportation, healthcare administration, or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible related experience; OR • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business, healthcare administration, operations management, or a related field and a minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible related experience. Specialized Knowledge and Skills • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and hold employees accountable in a frontline operational environment. • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple simultaneous operational demands and respond effectively to service disruptions. • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and professional interaction with employees, customers, and leadership. • Demonstrated experience in a customer-service-focused environment. • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability, including identification of recurring operational issues and corrective actions. • Ability to use Microsoft Office applications and common scheduling, dispatch, routing, GPS, mobile, and operational technology. • Demonstrated ability to interpret and use operational performance measures and reports. • Demonstrated experience working in a process-improvement and change-oriented environment. • Ability to apply policies, procedures, work rules, and performance standards consistently. • Experience working within a geographically dispersed or matrixed healthcare organization. • Experience with courier dispatch, route-management, GPS, fleet-management, or transportation technology preferred. • Experience using operational metrics, root-cause analysis, Lean, or other continuous improvement methodologies preferred.
