Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

Participate and assume responsibility for treatment planning, dosimetry calculations/measurements, quality assurance and other functions in radiation oncology and in medical physics. Assist the Chief Medical Physicist in complying with all pertinent government and accreditation agencies regulations.

Essential Duties:

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

  • Assume responsibility for: computerized treatment planning, dosimetry calculations/measurements and other related physics planning functions.
  • Assist the Radiation Safety Officer in complying with all pertinent government and accrediting agencies regulations by monitoring the hospital personnel, patient and public radiation exposures, and developing radiation safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in all Quality Management and Continuous Quality Improvement programs developed for the Medical Physics, Radiation Oncology departments, e.g. ensuring the accurate calibration and safe operation of all diagnostic and therapeutic radiation equipment.
  • Participate in radiation physics instruction, training and in-services to residents, student technologists and hospital caregivers.
  • Maintain professional competency by attending seminars, scientific meetings & workshops.

Job Requirements

General Requirements • Board Certified or eligibility required Work Experience • Minimum five years clinical experience, under the supervision of a qualified medical physicist Education • Masters Degree in medical physics or physics Specialized Knowledge and Skills • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients serviced in her/his assigned service area as related to the principle duties and responsibilities of the position. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training and experience.
