UNARMED SECURITY GUARD VA EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

GD Resources LLC is seeking qualified Unarmed Security Guards to provide continuous security and weapons-detection screening services at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center Emergency Department.

Location: 820 South Damen Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60612
Employment: Full-time
Schedule: 24/7 operation with day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts
Status: Contingent upon contract award and VA approval

Primary Responsibilities

Maintain continuous coverage at the Emergency Department Weapon Detection System.
Screen individuals entering the facility and monitor the system for indications of weapons or prohibited items.
Immediately report suspected contraband to the assigned VA Police officer.
Observe patients, visitors, employees, and activities around the assigned post.
Respond appropriately to emergencies, alarms, disturbances, and security incidents.
Use professional communication and de-escalation techniques, including when interacting with distressed or behavioral-health patients.
Assist VA personnel when directed and permitted by post procedures.
Complete accurate daily activity logs, incident reports, witness statements, and related documentation.
Remain at the assigned post until properly relieved.
Follow all VA policies, post orders, standard operating procedures, and privacy requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least two years of experience involving security, public interaction, customer service, or a related field.
Valid Illinois security officer license or ability to obtain the required license before starting.
Ability to work assigned day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts.
Ability to read and understand written instructions and prepare clear reports in English.
Strong communication, judgment, customer-service, and de-escalation skills.
Ability to remain calm and professional during emergencies and confrontational situations.
Ability to physically perform all assigned duties and detain an individual when authorized and necessary.
No disqualifying criminal record.
Ability to pass company and VA background investigations, including the VA Special Agreement Check.
Ability to obtain a VA identification badge.
Ability to pass required physical, psychological, drug-screening, and tuberculosis-testing requirements.
Ability to be bonded.

Special Requirements

Must complete VA-provided Weapon Detection System training before operating the system.
Must wear a company-provided ballistic vest while assigned to the Weapon Detection System.
Must complete required VA orientation, privacy, HIPAA, information-security, post-specific, and recurring training.
Must wear the required professional uniform and maintain all licenses and certifications.
