Under general supervision of the Manager or Supervisor, the Unattended Retail Associate ensures the efficient and continuous operation of the Dartmouth Dining vending program. Working as part of a team, stocks, maintains, cleans, and services Smart Coolers and associated café equipment. In addition, assists with the handling, storage, and transportation of food and products, ensuring that appropriate food safety standards are consistently maintained.

Description Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp High School or equivalency Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Two years of general food service experience.
  • Must be able to qualify as a Dartmouth Approved Driver.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced operation and to make decisions under pressure.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to deal effectively with students, faculty and staff
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to shift attention to changing details
  • Knowledge of sanitation regulations and policies and the ability to obtain a sanitation certification (ServSafe).
  • Knowledge of computer operations and familiarity and comfort with remote/mobile data terminals.
  • Must promote a positive work environment and be committed to achieving excellence in a team setting.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed or directed.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently work in a self-directed manner with minimal direct supervision while meeting daily and weekly goals.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry and move short distances and up/down stairs 50lbs regularly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior retail food service experience, particularly with vending operations.
  • Prior experience with kiosk or smart cooler operations.

Description

Stocking & Inventory Management

  • Replenish Smart Coolers with fresh products according to planograms and inventory levels
  • Rotate stock to ensure First-In-First-Out (FIFO) freshness and remove expired or damaged items
  • Ensure product presentation is neat, organized, and visually appealing to customers
  • Monitor product levels and report low inventory or stock-outs to the supervisor
  • Conduct basic inventory audits and records restocking data using mobile reporting tools
  • Assist Manager or Supervisor in monthly and annual product inventories as needed
  • Put away product orders by unloading deliveries, checking for accuracy, and organizing stock in storage areas or vehicle
  • Receive and verify inventory shipments, confirming product counts and inspecting for damage or defects

Cleaning & Sanitization

  • Wipe down exterior and interior surfaces of Smart Coolers using approved cleaning products
  • Remove debris, spills, and expired items to maintain a clean and food safe environment
  • Clean cooler vents, shelves, and doors regularly to ensure optimal operation
  • Maintain cleanliness of the surrounding area, condiment station and provided microwaves and food service equipment
  • Follow health safety standards for food-safe cleaning procedures

Servicing & Basic Maintenance

  • Perform basic troubleshooting of Smart Coolers (screen resets, jammed door, network connectivity); report complex issues to Manager or Supervisor. Inspect cooler functionality (temperature, lighting, display screens); report issues to Manager or Supervisor.
  • Replace minor parts (shelf pins, labels, signage) as needed
  • Report technical and maintenance issues that require escalation to the responsible supervisor or manager
  • Document service issues as needed for tracking and follow-up
  • Update planograms and stock pars using mobile tools

Route & Delivery Duties

  • Visit all units daily or weekly as needed, prioritizing locations based on restocking needs
  • Drive between locations using company vehicles to deliver products, restock storerooms, move equipment, transport other associates
