Overview:

We have an opportunity for a Underground Engineering & Construction Intern to join our team!

 

The successful candidates will be responsible for assisting Underground Engineering & Construction staff including support staff, technical specialists, project engineers, project managers, managers, and directors. Responsible for providing analysis, planning, design and construction services for: technical support, potable water distribution projects, wastewater collection projects, private development, and new service requests. Underground Engineering & Construction is part of the Capital Programs & Engineering Department, which also includes Energy Distribution Engineering, Plant Engineering, and Program Technical Services. The successful candidates will report to leaders in the Underground Engineering & Construction group.

Responsibilities:
  • Develops familiarity of department needs by reading, understanding, and applying departmental design guides, standards, systems, engineering codes, and Citizens policies and procedures.
  • Develops an understanding and complies with the Citizens Quality Program. Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.
  • Contributes to preparation of less complex engineering deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and studies of limited scope.
  • Performs routine research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
  • Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work.
  • Prepares basic engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
  • Focuses on the needs of internal clients (project team leadership) while attempting to gain basic understanding of external client's main interests and drivers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Active attendance at a college or university with emphasis in civil, mechanical, or general engineering, science, environmental studies, construction management, or related field.
  • Ability to work both remotely and access Citizens' local office and site facilities.

 

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:      

  • Valid State of Indiana, Bureau of Motor Vehicles Operator's License. (Must have a safe driving record including no history of serious traffic violations, accidents, suspensions/revocations, or DUI/DWI convictions within the last three years.)
  • Experience preferred in Microsoft Windows 10 and Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively and successfully with project managers, staff engineers, and other team members.
  • Completed at least Freshman year level of studies.
