Overview
MasTec Communications Group is seeking a skilled Underground Heavy Equipment Operator to support underground utility and infrastructure construction projects. In this role, you will safely operate heavy machinery such as excavators, trenchers, and backhoes to help install critical underground infrastructure while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities
- Operate heavy underground equipment including excavators, trenchers, and backhoes
- Perform trenching, backfilling, and excavation tasks safely and efficiently
- Read and interpret site plans and utility blueprints
- Navigate underground utility lines while maintaining safety standards
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
- Work alongside construction crews to complete underground utility projects
- Maintain compliance with all company and jobsite safety procedures
- Support project timelines through efficient and accurate equipment operation
Requirements
Must Have
- At least 2 years of professional experience operating heavy underground equipment
- Experience operating excavators, trenchers, and/or backhoes
- Ability to read and interpret utility site blueprints
- Strong understanding of underground utility safety practices
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Commitment to daily safety protocols and equipment maintenance
Nice to Have
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Experience on large-scale utility or fiber optic infrastructure projects
- Telecommunications or underground utility construction experience
