Our Underground Plumbing & Utility team supports clients with underground plumbing and wet utility solutions including domestic water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, utility repairs and replacements, excavation, and related site work.
The Underground Plumbing & Utility Account Manager is entrepreneurial, technically knowledgeable, and relationship-focused, with responsibility for developing opportunities from initial client contact through project turnover and completion. This role combines business development, estimating, and account management to identify client needs, evaluate field conditions, develop scopes and pricing, and deliver profitable solutions in partnership with MTech’s operations and field teams. Success in this role means developing a strong book of business, creating long-term client relationships, and becoming a trusted resource clients call when underground utility needs arise — helping MTech continue to be “asked back.”
Key responsibilities: General - Promote MTech’s culture and values internally and externally
- Collaborate effectively with estimating, operations, field leadership, accounting, and other internal teams
- Represent MTech professionally with clients, contractors, municipalities, vendors, and industry partners
- Manage multiple opportunities and projects in a fast-paced environment
- Follow company safety policies and actively promote MTech’s safety culture
- Participate in continuous improvement, training, and professional development
- Maintain regular and dependable attendance
- Perform other duties as assigned
Business Development - Meet or exceed assigned sales and gross margin goals while developing a profitable book of underground utility business
- Develop new client relationships through prospecting (cold calls), networking, referrals, industry relationships, and field opportunities
- Grow existing MTech accounts by identifying underground plumbing and utility needs across commercial, multifamily, construction, property management, municipal, and residential markets
- Meet with clients and conduct site walks to understand needs, field conditions, and potential project solutions
- Develop conceptual budgets, estimates, pricing, proposals, and presentations
- Maintain consistent follow-up on proposals and opportunities while managing an active sales pipeline and accurate forecast
- Develop repeat business and long-term client relationships
- Coordinate opportunities with MTech’s Service, Special Projects, and Construction teams when appropriate
Estimating & Preconstruction - Review plans, specifications, utility maps, as-builts, scopes of work, and other project documents to understand requirements and constructability
- Develop accurate estimates incorporating labor, materials, equipment, excavation, trucking, shoring, dewatering, backfill, restoration, and subcontracted work
- Obtain and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing
- Evaluate site access, existing utilities, soil conditions, depth, conflicts, and other project risks
- Identify scope gaps, change-order exposure, and value-engineering opportunities before work begins
- Develop competitive pricing while protecting project gross margin
- Participate in project turnover with operations and field leadership to ensure a clear transition from sale to execution
Account & Project Management - Maintain accurate client, opportunity, and project information in MTech’s CRM
- Maintain strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle and provide consistent communication and follow-through
- Establish clear project scope, budget, schedule, and client expectations
- Coordinate with project managers, field managers, foremen, vendors, subcontractors, and clients throughout project execution
- Conduct site visits to support coordination, quality, safety awareness, and project progress
- Monitor project performance against estimated labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and overall cost expectations
- Identify scope changes and ensure change orders are documented and priced appropriately
- Support procurement, invoicing, accounts receivable, project closeout, and client follow-up
- Forecast sales, backlog, revenue, and gross margin while maintaining visibility into project profitability
- Ensure compliance with MTech’s project management and safety procedures
- Serve as the on-call point of contact for underground utility emergencies, including water, sewer, and gas line breaks. Assess incoming calls, determine the initial response plan, and coordinate the appropriate field resources to address the situation. This role requires availability outside of normal business hours as emergencies arise

- Working knowledge of trenching, shoring, dewatering, utility locating, bedding/backfill, compaction, traffic control, restoration, and underground construction risks
- Knowledge of Colorado and Denver-area plumbing codes, permitting processes, and municipal requirements preferred
- Strong sales, negotiation, presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple opportunities and projects
- Ability and willingness to visit active construction sites and client facilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; CRM experience, including Unanet, is a plus; Bluebeam/Adobe PDF experience preferred
