Position Summary The Underground Leadman assists the Underground Foreman in supervising and coordinating the work of the underground crew while gaining the skills and experience necessary for future advancement to a Foreman role. This position plays a key role in ensuring safety, quality, and productivity on the job site.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist the Underground Foreman in overseeing daily operations and ensuring safety protocols are followed at all times.
• Provide direction and guidance to crew members to ensure efficient and quality work.
• Perform daily site walkthroughs to verify proper materials, tools, and equipment usage.
• Work closely with the Foreman to resolve on-site issues or conflicts.
• Monitor progress and maintain communication to ensure tasks meet project schedules.
• Track and record daily work quantities and submit reports as needed.
• Assist in daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and participate in weekly Toolbox Talks.
• Ensure trenches are excavated, shored, or sloped according to safety standards and specifications.
• Coordinate equipment and material needs with the Foreman and Dispatch.
• Serve as a point of contact for crew members and provide mentorship and support.
• Perform hands-on work alongside the crew as needed.
• Continuously develop skills in underground utility installation, leadership, and project management.
• Perform other duties as assigned by site supervision.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Solid understanding of underground sewer, water, and storm drain installation.
• Knowledge of trench safety, OSHA standards, and confined space procedures.
• Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to motivate a team.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to learn and grow into a Foreman role.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 5 years of underground utility construction experience.
• At least 2 years in a leadership or mentoring role preferred.
• Familiarity with MAG (Maricopa Association of Governments) specifications preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat and dust.
• Regular exposure to construction site hazards and moving equipment.
• Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds.
• Strong manual dexterity and coordination to operate tools and equipment.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.

Work Locations Multiple job sites throughout the Greater Phoenix Valley.
