Underwriting Assistant plays a crucial role in the efficient functioning of our underwriting department by managing the administrative and operational tasks throughout the entire insurance policy lifecycle. Seeking an individual who will serve as the primary liaison between underwriters, brokers, and internal stakeholders, ensuring all documentation is accurate, compliant, and processed within service standards. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, flexible and a self-starter, who possesses a strong customer-centric mindset with an enthusiasm for leveraging technology to drive process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Policy Processing: Accurately and efficiently process policy endorsements, cancellations, and renewals within the policy administration systems.
Documentation & Compliance: Maintain meticulous records and ensure all supporting documentation and necessary underwriter approvals are obtained and filed correctly, adhering to regulatory and internal standards.
Communication & Support: Serve as a primary point of contact for general questions from underwriters and brokers, effectively communicating information and resolving issues promptly.
Lifecycle Management: Demonstrate a deep understanding of the insurance policy lifecycle, including the accurate and timely issuance of legal notices of cancellation and reinstatement documentation.
Technology Integration: Actively leverage technology, including internal policy management platforms and automation tools to streamline workflows and improve efficiency.
Quality Assurance: Participate in testing new digital experiences and system updates, providing valuable feedback to ensure platforms are performing as expected.
Process Improvement: Identify creative solutions to improve operational efficiency and consistency across underwriting processes.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of commercial insurance experience, specifically within underwriting support, underwriting assistant, or relevant operations role.
Industry Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Casualty/General Liability (GL) lines of business, including an understanding of coverage types.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint) and a willingness to quickly learn new insurance-specific software and digital platforms.
Core Competencies: Must be detail-oriented, highly organized, and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen sense of urgency to meet deadlines.
