AXA XL recently established a new global Mergers & Acquisitions Insurance division focusing on the underwriting of transactional risk insurance solutions for private equity firms and corporates operating around the globe. These products, namely representation and warranty, tax opinion, tax credit and contingent liability insurance are now being used more regularly by buyers and sellers and their advisors to quantify, price and allocate risk. In establishing this business division, AXA XL is expanding its suite of products to key clients while creating a more efficient means for them to close deals and reduce uncertainty. Our rapidly growing Mergers & Acquisitions unit is looking to fill an Underwriting Assistant position in the New York office to support its business functions. As an Underwriting Assistant, you will play a critical role within the team where you will bring your energy and passion for learning to your responsibilities that are in direct support of the Underwriters. You will employ your proven analytical skills and attention to detail in supporting business critical underwriting activities from information gathering to rating for new business as well as electronic file preparation. You will work closely with colleagues across regional offices and globally, interacting directly with various business partners that include our clients, brokers, finance, legal and claims teams. What you'll be doing What will your essential responsibilities include? Monitoring deal submission flow and ccollecting account and ensured information for risk analysis by communicating directly with Brokers on behalf of the Underwriters. Analyzing submission materials and informational reports to glean anecdotal information for Underwriting (e.g., summarizing target company industry, parties to the transaction, limit/retention requests, broker, etc.) and preparing daily submission review schedule for use by Underwriting team. Creating and maintaining M&A group share drive; including creating dedicated electronic files for all deal accounts, filing all related transaction documents, following up with Brokers and Underwriters for outstanding items and ensuring filing compliance as required for Sarbanes Oxley and Internal Audit Guidelines. Liaising with Underwriters, Brokers and clients as needed to communicate account status and complete outstanding subjectivities. Tracking all submissions received from Brokers and inputting transaction data (e.g. parties, deal size, limits, retention, broker, due dates, etc…) on a weekly basis into M&A Group tracking database. Performing pre-analysis support for new submissions, endorsements, and other incoming documents based upon predefined underwriting rules and/or guidelines. Ensuring completeness of contents of underwriting package prior to handover to the Underwriter for risk analysis/risk selection process. Identifying, routing and assisting with the execution of all Non-Disclosure Agreement and Non-Reliance Letter requests received from Brokers. Managing all OFAC inquiries on transaction parties, target companies and potential insureds. Working with underwriters confirming policy issuance instructions for proprietary and manuscript policies, endorsements, forms, notices, etc. coupled with communicating these instructions to the coding and issuance unit. Effectively dealing with accounts having a variety of intricate parts and accurately compiling finalized policies to ensure they are complete and issued in a timely and efficient manner. Preliminary data entry for rating throughout the analysis, quote and bind stages of an account cycle - includes use of proprietary rating tools. Ensuring billing invoices are accurately prepared and sent to Brokers and assisting with Account Receivable collections when required. Generating Broker and Reinsurer correspondence in electronic format (i.e., e-mail, eFax) related to transaction processing and informational follow up requests using free-form letters, predefined or approved templates. Assuming a leadership role as it relates to application of processes and procedures associated with the position's responsibilities. You will report to the Head of Underwriting Operations. What you will BRING Required Skills and Abilities: We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills: Bachelor degree and/or some to moderate commercial insurance experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Outlook, Excel, Adobe Standard or similar PDF conversion tools required. Basic mathematical aptitude and ability to perform mathematical and algebraic functions. Knowledge of all applicable rating and policy issuance systems. Customer Service experience: High dedication to clients, team and vendor relations, evidencing professionalism and diplomacy in all situations. Robust communication and interpersonal skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration, presentation and influencing skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all internal and external stakeholders. Proven organizational and problem solving skills, prioritization and time management skills with accurate results. Knowledge of commercial insurance policy forms and regulatory requirements. Knowledge of underwriting principles, underwriting information, policy coverages and key endorsements. Basic understanding of financial concepts, terminology and ability to read financial statements a plus.
