The Underwriting Consultant is a senior-level underwriting professional responsible for evaluating and classifying complex, high-face-amount individual life insurance risks. In this role, you'll exercise advanced technical expertise and independent judgment while serving as a key resource within the Underwriting department. You'll influence sound risk selection decisions, support underwriting quality, and collaborate with internal and external partners to deliver exceptional service and business results.
Your role and impact
Here's a glimpse of your responsibilities and the meaningful impact you'll create as the Underwriting Consultant:
Independently evaluate and classify complex life insurance applications in accordance with company underwriting guidelines, mortality pricing assumptions, reinsurance agreements, and risk management practices.
Assess medical, financial, occupational, avocational, foreign travel, residency, and other mortality risks while making well-supported underwriting decisions.
Manage large and complex cases with underwriting authority of $5 million or greater without co-signature requirements.
Serve as a senior technical resource by providing second-level reviews and co-signature support on cases that exceed other underwriters' authority limits or require advanced technical review.
Partner with producers, distribution partners, internal sales teams, and Home Office associates to explain underwriting decisions, adverse actions, and financial determinations.
Mentor and support other members of the Underwriting department through technical guidance and expertise.
