Underwriting Support Specialist

LHH Recruitment Solutions is hiring an Underwriting Support Specialist for a national insurance company. This is in downtown Walnut Creek CA or Sacramento CA, very close to public transportation. This is an on-site temporary position with the potential to extend and/or convert.

Location: 3301 C Street, Suite 300, Sacramento, CA 95816

Shift: Monday - Friday 08:30 am - 5:00 pm

Compensation: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour depending on experience

Responsibilities:

  • Primarily responsible for assisting Underwriters in the review and management of insureds' policies. Completes accurate analysis, data entry, and policy processing tasks, executing routine policy transactions with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Gains familiarity and proficiency with standard Worker's Compensation concepts, practices, and procedures necessary to support a multi-state Underwriting department.

Teamwork Responsibilities:

  • Relies on instructions, pre-established guidelines, experience, and judgment to perform the functions of the job and accomplish goals.
  • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills with internal and external customers.
  • Completes the Underwriting support training curriculum including workers' compensation law, compliance, and regulations.
  • Applies training concepts and reference material to adhere to work processes and assignments including issuance and maintenance of policy contracts.
  • Completes routine policy processing tasks (assigned through Laserfiche). Tasks can include policy issuance for new and renewal business, policy endorsements, policy cancellations, and broker of record (BOR) changes.
  • Review notes from Underwriting to ensure appropriate steps are taken for assigned tasks.
  • Updates policy information in the underwriting management system (Bravo) as appropriate.
  • Requests additional information from the applicable Underwriter as needed.
  • Compiles data provided by previous carriers and other sources into various internal formats.
  • Enters data into the underwriting management system (Bravo) in compliance with set guidelines from the applicable bureaus.
  • Prepares pricing models from provided data through company-created Excel Macros.
  • Generates various manual forms and prepares them to be mailed out by internal partners.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and two years related college courses or equivalent work experience.
  • Math Ability - Able to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Have excellent analytical, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Can gather data and generate conclusions to reveal important facts.
  • Detail-oriented and a stickler for accuracy.
  • Work well with others and provide excellent customer service.
  • Can handle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Excel in a setting where you can flex your problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Seek an opportunity to use your knowledge of insurance terminology and legal concepts.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
