Under direct supervision, performs a variety of service duties such as: coordinating and performing the care and maintenance of Hospital grounds; plants and maintains floral beds; watering, seeding, mowing and fertilizing lawns; trimming and transplanting trees and shrubs; removing snow, ice, trash and debris. Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe facility. Performs other related duties as requested by authorized personnel. 

 

This position is located at Genesys Health- Grand Blanc, MI. 

Responsibilities:
  • Distributes assigned tasks to Groundskeepers and confirms jobs are completed properly.
  • Calculates and notifies supervisor of supplies needed, and records supplies and equipment assigned to Groundskeepers.  
  • Plants and maintains floral beds and berms. 
  • Mows lawn using hand or riding power mowers. Sods, re-seeds and waters lawns. 
  • Trims, transplants and waters trees and shrubbery as required. 
  • Fertilizes and sprays insecticide as needed.  
  • Removes debris from grounds and drainage basis and keeps terraces clean and orderly. 
  • Removes snow & ice from walkways, parking lots, steps, ramps, stairways; spreads salt on same. 
  • Transports salt from Materials Management and stores in garage. 
  • Cleans canopied areas, entrances and parking lots. 
  • Repairs driveway, parking lots, sidewalks and installs protective posts.  
  • Empties and cleans exterior trash containers and ash urns. 
  • Stores lawn furniture.
  • Performs various maintenance tasks on groundskeeping equipment, assembles new equipment.  
  • Washes and services assigned departmental vehicles and equipment. 
  • Delivers equipment throughout various areas in Hospital including computer equipment, television sets, and various other equipment as requested 
  • Performs as a member of Fire Brigade and Disaster Team. 
  • Must complete preventive maintenance work within allotted timeframe. 
  • Maintains water fountains and ponds.  
  • Must be available for emergency 24 hour snow removal. 
  • Performs all other duties and projects as assigned. 
Qualifications:

Education: 

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited program required; course work in horticulture and landscaping desirable-required. 

 

 

License/Certification: 

 

  • Certification specializing in Commercial Pesticide credentialed from the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development obtained within 12 Months (1 year) of hire date or job transfer date-required. 
  • Drivers License obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Any valid United States driver's license will be acceptable. Must meet risk management requirements- required. 
  • Drivers License specializing in Commercial obtained within 12 Months (1 year) of hire date or job transfer date. Any valid United States commerical driver's license will be acceptable-required.  

 

 

Experience: 

 

  • Must have experience in vehicle, equipment and small engine repair; must also have experience in all of the various types of equipment such as: 4-wheel drive vehicles, trucks, tractors, hydraulic plows and loaders-required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

 

  • Must be able to use a smartphone/computer to create work requests, order supplies and close corrective and preventive work orders. 
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Must have normal vision or correctable vision 
  • Must be able to differentiate primary colors 
  • Must have normal finger dexterity.
  • Must have the ability to work without mechanical assisting devices.
  • Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds without mechanical assisting devices.
  • Must be able to climb and work from ladders.
  • Must have normal hearing or correctable hearing to recognize various alarms in use in facility, including but not limited to: fire, steam pressure, medical gas and medical air alarms.
  • Must have excellent Interpersonal skills: written, oral and telephone.
  • Must be able to manipulate tools, instruments, equipment and materials commonly used in Maintenance trades.
  • Must pass a Respirator Fit test.
