Under limited supervision, responsible and accountable for all routine inspection, maintenance, repair, and installation of the hospital plumbing system and other mechanical equipment.
This position is located in Henry Ford St. John Hospital - Detroit, MI.
Responsibilities
• Maintains, repairs, and installs hospital plumbing systems, minor med gas repairs, and maintains drains. • Maintains, repairs, and operates faucets, valves, backflow devices, plumbing fittings, and fixtures. • Assure that all installations are in conformance with national, state, and local plumbing codes. • Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment and fixtures. • Keeps a sufficient inventory of spare parts on hand to maintain the hospital plumbing systems and mechanical equipment in good working order and make emergency repairs when needed. • Receives assignments and work orders. • Reviews work orders for priority status and designated time schedules. • Reads and interprets blueprints and specifications and estimates time, material, and cost requirements. • Requisitions material and supplies; prepares and assembles materials, tools, supplies, and equipment for work to be performed. • Assures that all pipes, valves, drains, lines, and other devices are properly marked as to the circuits and functions they control. • While working on electrical pumps and other devices, performs lock out, tag out procedures per departmental policy. • Maintains all required records and documents relative to preventive and corrective maintenance activities. • Maintains appropriate instruction manuals, technical documents, schematics, and blueprints. • Completes all work orders in a timely, legible manner in order that complete and meaningful equipment histories are maintained. • Responds to emergency calls in a timely manner. • Applies cost-effective measures in order to improve efficiency and supports cost containment efforts while delivering a high-quality service. • Provides Values-Added customer service consistent with hospital policy.
Qualifications
Education:
• High School diploma or equivalent is required. Related trade school - preferred.
License/Certification:
• One or more of the following: Licensed Journeyman or Master Plumber - required.
Experience:
• Three to five years - required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to work with power equipment. • Ability to work with hazardous equipment.
