Job Description
Tennessee State University College of Business invites applications for the position of Unit Academic Advisor.
The Undergraduate Academic Advisor in the College of Business provides essential support to students by guiding them in course selection and monitoring their academic progress to ensure they meet graduation requirements.
This role includes:
- Individual and group advising
- Developing academic plans
- Conducting workshops on resources and career development
- Collaborating with faculty and staff to enhance the student experience and support retention initiatives
Additionally, the advisor:
- Designs and manages student databases
- Collects statistical data for analysis and reporting
- Provides general support to faculty and the Office of the Dean
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations, including students, faculty, and staff.
- Proficient in using student information systems and other relevant software.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Knowledge
- Understanding of academic programs and policies in higher education.
- Familiarity with academic advising models and best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in business or a related field.
- At least 1-2 years of experience in academic advising, counseling, or related roles in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in business or a related field.
- Experience in student success or retention initiatives.
- Knowledge of career services and internship opportunities for business students.
