Job Summary
We are looking for individuals to join our client’s team as Unit Clerk. This class of positions encompasses clerical related office activities utilizing manual and automated office systems; duties may include supervision of employees performing routine tasks appropriate to each Assignment Level. There are three Assignment Levels within this class of positions. The following are typical assignments within this class of positions. All personnel perform related work. The Unit Clerk performs as a unit receptionist to maintain a pleasant, well organized environment.
Job Description
Acts as receptionist.Greetings and direct patients, visitors and authorized personnel.
Refers non-authorized visitors to the Nurse – in – Charge.
Answer telephones including patient call bells.Takes and delivers messages.Locates doctors and nurses via telephone.Contact relatives and patients when so directed.
Prepares requisitions for repairs, supplies and maintenance.Takes periodic inventory of stationery supplies as directed.

At the beginning of each tour, compiles ward statistics.Counts patients for census.Enters admission, transfer or discharge data in Unit Activity Log.
Ensure that all patients have an ID arm band.
Makes transportation arrangements with ambulance service transport as directed.
Post notices on bulletin board. Pick up doctor’s Orders and complete and prepare labels and tags.
Completes 24-hour discharge notice submit to patient for signature notified change nurse if patient has clinical questions.
Call 8888 Code as directed and monitor telephones during the 8888 Code.
Arrange for messenger service to transport specimen, mail and other items as needed.
Calls Medical Record Department for EPIC revisions requested.
Maintains stationary supplies, medical records, Kardex in a neat and orderly fashion and in accordance with established standards.
Maintains compliance with Infection control and Safety Guidelines as set forth in each manual t assist in providing a safe environment.
Maintain a pleasant, well organized environment.
Assist in the orientation of new clerks.
Make appointments for the discharge patients.
Assists in ensuring safe and secure environment free of hazards to reduce risk of injury to all patients, visitors and staff.
Effectively utilizes the electronic as well as the paper medical record.
Use of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, etc. EPIC electronic medical records systems, dashboards, PeopleSoft, and other web-based applications to support workflows and reporting.
Performs other related duties as required to support operational goals.
Skills Required
Two years’ experience.
Minimum 6 months to 1 year of front desk, Clerical Associate, or public-facing customer service experience (preferably in a hospital setting).
Experience in handling phone lines and interacting directly with patients and medical staff.
Proven ability to obtain and dispense information, process orders, and listen to and resolve customer or patient concerns and complaints.
