Unit Coordinator / Monitor Technician, PRN Tier 1

Summary:  Performs reception and clerical duties in a patient care unit. Responsible for completing order entry process for diagnostic and therapeutic services. Requisitions supplies and equipment. Scans, interprets, and reports all cardiac rhythms displayed on monitors.  Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe work area for the health care providers.  All team members of Southeast Georgia Health System will promote a culture of safety, follow established policies, and adhere to all state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission requirements, and national patient safety standards.

Tier 1 – PRN
Pay rate: Experienced based pay rate (plus any applicable shift differentials)
Commitment: 16 - 48 hours per week
Campus: BWK & CAM
Weekend and Holidays:  2 WE shifts in a schedule period, 1 major holiday 
Schedule:  Provide Schedule up to four (4) weeks in advance

Essential Responsibilities:  This description of job responsibilities is intended to reflect the major responsibilities and duties of the job, but is not intended to describe minor duties or other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

• Acts as receptionist. Greets, smiles, and communicates effectively with all persons coming to the unit, answers inquiries, directs and assists all visitors, staff and physicians. Assists with the delivery of flowers, gifts, and mail for patients.
• Promptly answers telephone, intercom, and/or paging systems using proper telephone etiquette.
• Maintains proficiency in all available computer system applications. Understands and applies "downtime" procedures in a timely manner.
• Keeps medical record in proper order and thins record as needed following established procedures.
• Is consistently proactive and assists in care and maintenance of unit equipment and supplies.
• Orders and maintains office supplies. 
• Consistently detects arrhythmias. Distinguishes between non-threatening and lethal arrhythmias. Documents arrhythmias as required.
• Obtains admission/on-going rhythm strips and places on patient’s medical record per unit protocol in timely manner.
• Is accountable for all transmitter and cables in use each shift.
• Coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• One year of physician office duties in a health care setting with medical terminology required; or currently in school for allied health degree.  NAHUC Certification preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Clerical and computer skills, knowledge of medical terminology. Successful completion of Monitor Tech Course within 90 days of employment or transfer.  Successful completion of annual proficiency test.  Good communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Current American Heart Association CPR Certification is required
