Unit Support Assistant
Location: Houston, TX
Pay Rate: Starting at $15.00/hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday 2:30 PM-11:00 PM, including weekend rotation
Dean's Professional Services is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Unit Support Assistant to support a leading healthcare organization in Houston, TX. This position is ideal for someone with housekeeping or Environmental Services experience who takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary healthcare environment.
The primary responsibility will be patient discharges and room turnover, while also assisting with Environmental Services duties as needed. The Unit Support Assistant will help ensure rooms and assigned areas are cleaned, disinfected, and prepared promptly while following established infection-control and safety procedures.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient discharge and room turnover duties as the primary responsibility.
- Clean and disinfect patient rooms and assigned areas according to established schedules, standard operating procedures, and infection-control guidelines.
- Respond to emergency spills promptly, with a goal of responding within five minutes, using approved cleanup procedures.
- Safely dispense and use cleaning chemicals according to manufacturer recommendations and approved applications.
- Clean vents, exhausts, intake air grills, and supply grills as assigned.
- Clean, dust, sweep, and remove debris as directed by leadership.
- Handle, transport, and dispose of general and hazardous waste according to established procedures when assigned.
- Maintain positive control of cleaning equipment and chemicals by continuously monitoring the cleaning cart.
- Perform room checkout duties within designated timeframes to support prompt room turnaround.
- Clean and set up rooms for special events and functions as needed.
- Clean and maintain patient care equipment according to established procedures.
- Safely transport patients to and from designated areas when assigned.
- Pick up and deliver unit specimens, supplies, equipment, and other items as needed.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, families, staff, and leadership.
- Follow all applicable safety, infection-control, and departmental procedures.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred; relevant experience may be considered.
- Housekeeping / Environmental Services experience in healthcare setting required.
- Prior hospital Environmental Services or housekeeping experience preferred.
- Knowledge of standard housekeeping procedures, including cleaning products, sanitizing, and chemical safety practices.
- Ability to safely operate standard cleaning and floor equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients, and families.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Must successfully complete required departmental training for Unit Support Assistants.
- Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
