JOB TITLE: University Advancement Student Leadership Intern

LOCATION(S): Minneapolis & St. Paul Campus

PAY RATE: $16.50

HOURS: Approximately 10-15 hours of work over the course of this academic year program

We are excited to invite you to apply for the 2026-2027 University Advancement Student Leadership Internship Program (SLIP).

BE A LEADER WHILE EXPANDING YOUR PORTFOLIO AND RESUME

This program will allow you to explore the roles of various departments that support university advancement efforts including:

• Development
• Donor Relations
• Events
• Marketing and Communications
• Prospect Development
• Development Systems
• Data Analytics
• Alumni Engagement
• Annual Giving

Understand how these departments collaborate with each other as you learn about projects, systems, and tools that enhance the philanthropic experience at St. Thomas. Learn how the 5 T's of philanthropy - time, talent, treasure, testimony, and ties - connect and enhance the growth of the university and our community.

Use knowledge obtained in the fall semester to engage in a University Advancement-specific spring semester hands-on learning experience.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE

The Student Leadership Internship Program gives participants an inside look at the advancement industry, demonstrating how various professions and skill sets work together in a sophisticated advancement department. Through discussion with experts and hands-on experience, students will discover how fundraising, alumni engagement, and strategic communications work together to build lifelong relationships, inspire philanthropy, and create opportunities for future Tommies.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

• The Student Leadership Internship Program is an academic-year program that will run from September 2026 to April 2027.
• SLIP will provide education about advancement and resources during the fall and spring sessions and work experience through the hands-on learning experience in the spring.
• We estimate that students will need to commit to approximately 10-15 hours of work over the course of this academic year program (time estimate includes fall and spring semester sessions, additional engagement opportunities and limited time outside of sessions).
• Cohort members will be compensated for their time at a rate of $16.50 and must commit to participating in all convo hour sessions (noted below) as well as additional University Advancement opportunities.
• The majority of convo hour sessions will be held on the St. Paul campus. Interns also may have opportunities to meet with University Advancement staff on the Minneapolis campus.
• A limited number of internship positions are available.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Commitment to participate in all SLIP convo hour sessions
• Demonstrated involvement/strong interest in philanthropy and other areas connected to University Advancement
• Ability to keep sensitive information confidential
• Commitment to UA's core values of collaboration, integrity, respect, innovation and gratitude

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
