Position Summary

The Student Support Assistant provides valuable administrative support to the daily operations of the University Financial Aid Office, which includes Financial Aid, Student Employment, and External Loans. This entry-level position is designed for a dependable student seeking professional office experience in a highly supportive environment. Working alongside full-time staff members, assistants will help manage busy periods at the front desk, assist peers with routine employment paperwork, and provide a student perspective on upcoming office guides. This is a great resume-building opportunity with comprehensive training provided for all tasks. 20- hour/week, pay rate $13.44/hour

Responsibilities

Front Desk Support & Customer Service

  • Welcome students and visitors to the offices and remind them to check in on the sign-in sheet.

  • Provide backup support for the Sears 240 suite by answering incoming phone calls during peak hours, addressing general questions, or routing complex inquiries to full-time staff.

  • Help distribute physical paper paychecks to student employees, verifying their student ID upon pickup.

Guided Student Employment Document Intake

  • Follow a straightforward, step-by-step checklist to help newly hired students submit their required onboarding paperwork.

  • Securely copy, scan, and file student paperwork and identification documents, following office procedures to ensure sensitive information is properly handled (training provided).

  • Perform basic data entry.

Student Guide Feedback

  • Read through drafts of upcoming student guides, informational flyers, or website instructions before they are published to the campus.

  • Share your perspective as a student on whether the wording is easy to understand, and point out any sections that might feel confusing to a peer.

General Office Tasks

  • Assist with basic office duties as needed, such as filing, organizing supplies, or other light administrative projects.

Qualifications

  • A dependable student who arrives on time for shifts, is open to learning basic office software, and can adapt to daily office needs as they pop up.

  • Comfortable interacting with visitors politely (in person or on the phone) and able to carefully follow checklists to process student paperwork and maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive student data.

  • Willing to share an honest student perspective on whether draft office guides are clear or confusing.
