Role Description
Under minimal supervision, the Upholstery Technician III performs advanced upholstery fabrication and installation for VIP aircraft completion projects. This role is responsible for sewing, foam fabrication, pattern alignment, and upholstery of aircraft seats, trim components, panels, and carpeting while ensuring all work meets engineering specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. The Technician III serves as a senior technical resource within the upholstery shop, supporting production efficiency, troubleshooting complex upholstery challenges, and assisting in the development of junior technicians.
Essential Job Functions
· Prepare upholstered surfaces for foam and covering using various hand tools in accordance with approved company procedures. Clean adhesive residue from panels and remove materials from parts as required.
· Perform advanced sewing operations and modifications to seat covers, curtains, cushions, and other upholstery components using industrial sewing machines and specialized upholstery tools.
· Fabricate and upholster aircraft interior components including seats, cushions, trim panels, and soft goods in accordance with engineering drawings and design specifications.
· Interpret complex material specifications and engineering drawings to ensure upholstered components meet design requirements, quality standards, and customer expectations.
· Identify material requirements and request supplies in a timely manner to maintain continuous production workflow.
· Ensure all regulatory documentation and installation records are properly completed in accordance with the Comlux Repair Station Quality Manual (RSQM) and other applicable quality standards.
· Follow all departmental safety guidelines and ensure proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment.
· Maintain a strong working knowledge of company installation procedures, process specifications, and Internal Operating Procedures (IOPs).
· Provide guidance and technical support to Upholstery Technician Trainees, Technician I, and Technician II team members as needed.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while supporting efficient shop operations.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience
· High School Diploma or GED required. Relevant trade school or vocational training preferred.
· Advanced knowledge of aircraft upholstery fabrication processes within a corporate aviation or aircraft completions environment.
· 6+ years of upholstery, sewing, or aircraft interior fabrication experience preferred.
· Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering documentation.
Required Skills and Abilities
· Advanced knowledge of upholstery fabrication techniques including foam shaping, sewing, pattern alignment, and leather installation.
· Strong understanding of RSQM procedures and FAA regulatory requirements related to aircraft interior fabrication and installation.
· Working knowledge of computers and software systems utilized by Comlux.
· Strong craftsmanship and attention to detail required for high-end VIP aircraft interiors.
· Ability to mentor junior technicians and support team productivity.
· Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with production teams, supervisors, engineering, and quality personnel.
Work Environment
This position is based in an aircraft hangar environment and may involve:
· Exposure to varying temperatures and weather conditions

· Potential contact with chemicals or hazardous materials
· Working in confined aircraft interior spaces
