Open Wings Learning Community is a small private school that opened in the fall of 2012 to serve students with diverse learning needs. We work as a team of teachers, therapists, classroom associates, and volunteers in our school. Our environment is collaborative, creative, and research focused.

Classroom Teacher Qualifications

  • Middle or high school teaching experience and/or upper level special education teaching experience
  • Experience teaching social studies/language arts to a wide range of learners preferred
  • Previous classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Previous experience with complex learners preferred
  • Understanding of progressive education ideals & practices preferred

Curriculum and Instruction

  • Develop deep understanding of individual learners in a small group setting
  • Support the implementation of research-based curriculum in Social Studies/Language Arts lessons
  • Participate in teaching team to support learning needs of all middle/upper school students at Open Wings
  • Participate in ongoing professional development through weekly meetings and regular curricular seminars
  • Other duties as assigned such as lunch and recess times to support student connection and guidance
