    Description

    We are looking to hire a highly motivated, best-in-class UPS Battery Testing Technician to join our growing Operations Services team. The team responsibilities include maintaining critical equipment in support of providing best in class availability for our data center customers. The UPS Battery Testing Technician will work closely with both internal customers, external vendors as well as coordinate regional resources to facilitate smooth work execution. This critical role is responsible for the preventative maintenance of UPS batteries in our data centers.

    Our ideal candidate is highly autonomous, very detail oriented, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, and has significant experience in supporting critical infrastructure. They will possess the ability to design, develop, and deploy innovative solutions to address operational challenges. This role requires both independent contribution as well as the ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams. An expert level of understanding of battery systems is desirable, as the individual will be expected to identify areas for improvement as well as act on data provided from other teams and organizations.

    This role requires regular travel between multiple data center sites within the region. The incumbent is responsible for self-arranging reliable transportation to and from assigned work locations.

    NOTE: Lump sum stipend will be provided to eligible candidates who relocate for this position.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Apply preventative maintenance testing techniques in support of maintaining UPS batteries across our fleet of data centers.
    • Act as an ambassador for safety within the team and to promote safe working across the site.
    • Remain cognizant of and act in compliance with all security protocols.
    • Interact with engineers, technicians, project managers and management on a daily basis.
    • Work with engineers to develop detailed and creative solutions to complex problems, while keeping a watchful eye on timelines and costs.
    • Develop and maintain a good working relationship across all levels in the organization.
    • Ensure consistency in deployed configurations and track exceptions for follow up.
    • Execute predictive and preventive maintenance programs.
    • Ability to interpret inspection data and create qualitative and quantitative analysis
    • Provide support for LSE, weather events, planned, and unplanned outages.
    • Provide cross functional support for Non-destructive testing teams.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    A day in the life

    This role acts as Amazon's front line when it comes to hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment preventative maintenance (PM) and troubleshooting, reporting findings to a site's Data Center Facility Manager (FM). They will maintain, operate, and troubleshoot mission-critical data center facility equipment including stand-by diesel generators and related fuel systems, 3 phase electrical systems such as switchgear, UPS units, PDUs, and wet cell batteries and associated systems. Mechanical equipment includes CRAHU units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, water systems, air handlers and associated systems, pumps, and motors. Additional support equipment is included in the scope of the role which includes fire/life safety equipment, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment.
