Sous Chef Requirements & Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in high-volume, upscale casual kitchens
  • Professional, personable, and passionate about hospitality
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills
  • Physically able to stand and move for up to 8 hours per shift
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 50 lbs
  • Proficient in performing and teaching excellent culinary skills
  • Consistent with administrative and operational responsibilities

Sous Chef Preferred Background & Skills

  • Proven ability to foster creativity and a positive culture among staff
  • Experience managing scheduling and labor budgets
  • Innovative approach to menu planning and recipe development

Sous Chef Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Supervise and motivate the BOH hourly staff, emphasizing learning and creativity
  • Ensure the team maintains professionalism and meets appearance standards
  • Lead training for new hires and ongoing team development
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef on menu planning and recipe execution
  • Maintain optimal staffing levels and participate in hiring processes
  • Oversee labor, food, and beverage budgets; analyze P&L to improve profitability
  • Manage all aspects of food quality, handling, safety, and sanitation
  • Uphold and enforce standards for expediting, ticket times, and plate presentation
  • Communicate effectively with the front of house to ensure seamless operations
  • Complete opening, closing, and regular BOH duties to company standard
