Sous Chef Requirements & Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in high-volume, upscale casual kitchens
- Professional, personable, and passionate about hospitality
- Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills
- Physically able to stand and move for up to 8 hours per shift
- Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 50 lbs
- Proficient in performing and teaching excellent culinary skills
- Consistent with administrative and operational responsibilities
Sous Chef Preferred Background & Skills
- Proven ability to foster creativity and a positive culture among staff
- Experience managing scheduling and labor budgets
- Innovative approach to menu planning and recipe development
Sous Chef Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Supervise and motivate the BOH hourly staff, emphasizing learning and creativity
- Ensure the team maintains professionalism and meets appearance standards
- Lead training for new hires and ongoing team development
- Collaborate with the Executive Chef on menu planning and recipe execution
- Maintain optimal staffing levels and participate in hiring processes
- Oversee labor, food, and beverage budgets; analyze P&L to improve profitability
- Manage all aspects of food quality, handling, safety, and sanitation
- Uphold and enforce standards for expediting, ticket times, and plate presentation
- Communicate effectively with the front of house to ensure seamless operations
- Complete opening, closing, and regular BOH duties to company standard
