Provide high school students, 9th-12th grade, with quality instruction geared towards ensuring the development of beneficial skills and content knowledge necessary for post-secondary success. This includes, but is not limited to, content knowledge pertaining to rigorous academic subjects such as Mathematics, Science, English, History, and Foreign Language.
Rate of Pay:
- Summer Component- $225 per 2-hour class, per class (i.e., 2 classes, $450 per-week)
- Optional opportunity to teach an elective class for two days a week in Weeks 1-5, with a one time payment of $200 to be paid at the conclusion of the summer academy in July.
Essential Job Duties
- Create student-centered lesson plans that foster critical thinking, collaboration, and/or subject mastery.
- Share lesson plans and learning objectives with the Upward Bound Academic Coordinator as requested.
- Deliver rigorous lessons aligned with state standards and program learning objectives.
- Incorporate a variety of teaching methods, activities, and resources to cater to diverse learning styles.
- Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages intellectual curiosity and academic growth.
- Encourage student participation and engagement through class discussions and debates.
- Maintain regular communication with Upward Bound staff regarding student progress, goals, and academic performance.
- Assist students in preparing for standardized tests (SAT/ACT) as needed.
- Conduct formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Provide constructive feedback to students to enhance their understanding and academic performance.
- Participate in meetings focused on continually improving the experience of program participants.
Additional Duties Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, and Upward Bound staff
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Applicants must be dependable with a genuine interest in helping first-generation, low income students
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
Experience teaching in a college preparatory program or working with high school students in a similar capacity preferred.
Licenses, Certification or Registrations
Valid teaching certification in the relevant subject area(s) preferred
