Urban Outfitters Buying Intern Home, Decor and Gifting

Role Summary

Urban Outfitters Home Buying team is a growing and customer forward area of the business! We are looking for Decor and Gifting enthusiast who is knowledgeable about the industry and social trends and has a great eye for upcoming brands and emerging items. Our intern will be responsible for presenting new brand/product trends, managing inbound brand samples as well as photography samples, and assisting with seasonal assortment selections.

Summer Internship Program Application Process:

• Apply to one (1) internship posting that best aligns with your interests and skills. If there is a project component included in the application (see role qualifications below), it is required and must be submitted at the time of application to be considered for the position.
• Complete a Video Interview: Candidates selected to move forward will receive an email with a link to complete a video interview. Once the email is received, candidates will have two (2) days to complete this portion of the application.
• Interviews with our internal teams will be scheduled on a rolling basis.

Role Responsibilities

• Trend & Assortment Innovation

• Research and present emerging macro-trends, aesthetic shifts, and forward-thinking brand concepts to inject fresh perspective into upcoming seasonal assortments.

• Sample Lifecycle & Cross-Functional Management

• Support the end-to-end sample handoff process, accurately tracking and communicating shoot priorities across photo studios, merchandising, and marketing teams.

• Sample Organization

• Maintain the organizational system for the sample closet/shelves and inbound inventory, ensuring seamless preparation for sample needs.

• Social & Digital Trend Alignment

• Collaborate with Buying and Social teams to monitor viral content, cultural moments, and trending social posts, translating them into dynamic promotional strategies for key brand partners and hero products.

• Visual Presentation & Picture Pack Curation

• Maintain picture packs to support presentations and executive alignments.

• Competitive Intelligence & Market Analysis

• Conduct weekly market research focusing on pricing architecture, competitive product shifts, and emerging industry trends to inform strategic buying decisions.

• Digital Innovation & Customer Experience (CX)

• Contribute digitally forward recommendations and actionable insights to elevate the online customer journey and enhance cross-channel engagement.

Role Qualifications

• Buying/Merchandising Major or Related Preferred
• Prior Retail Experience Preferred
• Passion of Trending Home Decor Items and Giftables
• Urban Outfitters Customer Enthusiast and Immersed in Social Media Trends
• Google and Microsoft Program experience

Project Requirement:

Create a concept board with 3 - 5 home decor and gifting trends you see emerging for the Urban Outfitters customer in Fall 2027.

• Pull imagery from Streetwear, Pinterest, Social, runway, etc. to show your point of view - merchandisers, make it into a story!
• We are looking for forward thinkers showing future inspirational trends that move beyond where we are currently or where we have been, so show us fun trends we should have in our assortment!
• Our team is inspired by story telling so please make this as visually creative and compelling as you want!
