Normal Work Schedule: Flexible; 10 to 20 hours per week.
Job Summary: UREC Intramural Sports Officials are an integral part of the Sport Programs Staff. This position will provide officiating and score keeping support for a variety of intramural and club team sports during the academic year, including Flag Football, Ultimate Frisbee, Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Softball, and Dodgeball. No prior experience is required; free training will be provided for each sport.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Must be currently enrolled and continuing as a part-time or full-time Undergraduate or Graduate Student at The University of Alabama (not required in the summer months). Must be available to work 10-15 hours per week. Must be able to work flexible evening hours; games typically take place Sunday-Thursday from 5pm to 11pm. Must be able lift and move up to 35 lbs. Must be able walk, run, and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, and in various weather conditions. Must attend all required and training and successfully complete rules test for various team sports.
Skills and Knowledge: Self-motivation and ability to work cooperatively as part of a team. Willingness to learn and accept direction/feedback from peers and supervisors. An understanding of sports rules, and department policies and procedures. Leadership and public relations skills. Decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous sports officiating experience preferred but not required.
Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
