The Federal Way Per Diem Medical Assistant plays a key support role in delivering high-quality patient care on an as-needed, hourly basis. In this position, you will work closely with providers, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure efficient patient flow, accurate clinical support, and a positive experience for every patient. This per diem role is ideal for a flexible, detail-oriented Medical Assistant who is comfortable stepping into various clinical and front-office tasks, including phlebotomy, point-of-care testing (POCT), rooming patients, and handling check-in procedures.
What You'll Do
Perform patient check-in, verify demographics and insurance information, and ensure completion of required forms and consents
Room patients efficiently, obtain and document vital signs, medical history, medications, and chief complaints in the electronic medical record (EMR)
Perform phlebotomy, including venipuncture and specimen collection, labeling, and handling in accordance with clinical and laboratory protocols
Conduct point-of-care testing (POCT) following established procedures, maintain quality control logs, and document results accurately
Prepare exam rooms before and after visits, ensuring they are clean, stocked, and compliant with infection control standards
Assist providers during examinations, treatments, and minor procedures as directed and within scope of practice
Support patient workflow by coordinating with front desk, nursing, and provider teams to minimize wait times and improve visit efficiency
Provide patients with clear instructions regarding follow-up care, tests, and procedures as directed by providers
Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in the EMR for all clinical tasks performed
Handle telephone and in-person inquiries professionally, relaying messages and information to providers and team members as needed
Adhere to all clinic policies, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements, including OSHA and HIPAA
Demonstrate flexibility in working per diem/variable shifts, including covering for staff absences or high-volume periods as needed
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent training
Minimum of 1 year of recent Medical Assistant experience in an outpatient clinic, physician office, or similar healthcare setting
Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy, including venipuncture and specimen handling
Experience performing point-of-care testing (POCT) and documenting results accurately
Hands-on experience with rooming patients, obtaining vitals, and documenting history and chief complaint in an EMR system
Experience with patient check-in, registration, and basic front-office workflows
Current Medical Assistant certification/registration (or eligibility), as required by state or employer standards
Current BLS (Basic Life Support) or CPR certification, or ability to obtain within required timeframe
Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written
Excellent customer service skills and a professional, compassionate demeanor with patients and families
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced clinical environment
Flexibility to work an hourly, per diem schedule, including variable days and shifts based on clinic needs
Proficient with basic computer skills and comfortable learning and using electronic medical record (EMR) systems
Reliable transportation to the Federal Way location and ability to report as scheduled for per diem shifts
