Overview:

This position is open to enrolled USU Tooele students who would like to serve in a leadership capacity while positively representing the institution and students we serve. This leadership group will assist incoming students and mentor them throughout their first year.

 

Peer Mentors will make sure students are aware of campus resources and they have the resources to do well academically. Peer Mentors are hired based on their professionalism, personality, skills, and ability to devote adequate time to the position, team and their students.

 

Students who qualify for Financial Aid Work Study are encouraged to apply. 

 

This position is only open to students currently enrolled in USU Tooele classes.

 

This is a temporary position running from the beginning of Fall Semester (August 31, 2026) to the end of Spring Semester (May 4, 2027)

 

On-Campus ACA Variable. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. U.S. work authorization is required for the duration of employment.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Concurrent Enrollment Coordinator Peer Mentors will:

  • Mentor and collaborate with a large group of first year students
  • Reach out to students who are academically ‘at-risk’
  • Will contact students to share a variety of information as requested by the Director of Student Services attend office meetings and participate in campus trainings, events, etc., as assigned by the Concurrent Enrollment Coordinator
  • Attend and assist in the planning of USU 1010 Connections in August
  • Fulfill weekly office hours & assist at the front desk when needed
  • Maintain good standing in regards to the Student Code of Conduct
  • Follow through with all activities, assignments, and duties given
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Student enrolled in USU Tooele classes
  • Maintain 2.7 GPA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience assisting, collaborating with, and mentoring students
  • Completion of at least one semester at USU Tooele

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Exceptional listener and communicator who enjoys working with others
  • Ability to take direction and complete projects on time
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and juggle multiple tasks
  • Cultural sensitivity and an ability to build rapport with a diverse population
  • Team player who excels at building trusting relationships with students
  • Dependable, responsible contributor committed to excellence

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
