Louisiana Bridge Builders ("LBB") is designing and building the new I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge in Lake Charles, Louisiana (USA) for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD). This role ensures work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and project specifications.LocationThis position is based in Lake Charles, LA.Primary Duties & ResponsibilitiesCoordinates with management, construction crews, Maintenance of Traffic (MOT), engineers, safety, environmental, and regulatory teams to troubleshoot issues, verify field conditions, and ensure quality control throughout all phases of utility projects.Perform field investigations, site surveys, and technical assessments to support construction planning and design.Review and interpret engineering drawings, utility maps, and specifications.Provide on-site technical guidance to crews during installation, maintenance, or repair of utility infrastructure.Conduct inspections to ensure construction activities align with engineering standards and project requirements.Monitor contractor performance and ensure adherence to work plans, timelines, and safety protocols.Document field observations, site changes, and deviations from plans; recommend corrective actions.Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing utility construction and operations.Perform testing, commissioning, and validation of newly installed utility systems.Maintain accurate records, as-built documentation, and field reports.Assist in planning field activities, sequencing work, and resolving technical challenges.Support procurement of materials, equipment, and resources needed for utility field work.Participate in construction meetings, progress updates, and stakeholder briefings.Enforce safety standards, procedures, and best practices on site and identify potential hazards and work with teams to mitigate risks and ensures all field work follows company, OSHA, and industry safety guidelines.Diagnose issues related to utility systems (e.g., leaks, electrical faults, equipment malfunctions).Recommend and oversee corrective measures and repairs.Support emergency response operations, outages, or system failures when required.Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Knowledge, Abilities & Skills for SuccessEffectively communicate in a positive and professional manner through written and verbal communications in all interfaces with customers/public, fellow employees, vendors, etc.Ability to use appropriate computer programs (including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite) which includes having proficient computer skills and the ability to adapt and learn as programs and processes change.Ability to understand all existing and proposed utilities throughout the project site, and able to identify and advise on potential hazards and/or conflicts associated with those utilities.Ability to understand subcontracts and manage subcontractors.Ability to field verify quantities and process pay applications.Knowledge of P6 scheduling software.Ability to create and maintain 3-Week Look Ahead schedules.Ability to work as a team member and exert initiative to work independently to reach a goal.Ability to embrace change in the workplace while encouraging others to seek innovative approaches.Ability to function effectively as a team player and collaborator.Ability to work a flexible work schedule, additional and/or different hours, including but not limited to nights, weekends, and/or holidays, as needed, to best serve the business operations.Ability to maintain a valid and current driver's license.QualificationsAt a minimum, the Utilities Field Engineer must have a bachelor's degree in civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering, or equivalent field of study, along with 3+ years of engineering related experience with a focus on utilities OR a high school diploma, or equivalent, along with 7+ years of engineering related experience with a focus on utilities.
