Role Description The Utilities Locator is responsible for identifying and marking the location of underground utilities such as telecommunications, gas, water, sewer, and electric lines. This full-time, on-site role is based in Fort Lauderdale, FL and involves daily travel to job sites, using locating equipment and maps to verify utility paths, and documenting findings accurately. Typical tasks include interpreting utility prints, performing field surveys, placing appropriate markings and flags, and communicating with site supervisors and construction teams about utility locations and potential conflicts. The role also requires completing digital or paper reports, following safety protocols, complying with local regulations and company procedures, and working outdoors in various weather conditions. The Utilities Locator collaborates with colleagues and clients to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

Qualifications

• Experience with utilities and the utility industry, including basic understanding of underground infrastructure and related field operations.

• Knowledge of excavation practices and safe digging procedures to prevent damage and ensure compliance with safety standards.

• Computer literacy, including ability to use mobile devices, mapping applications, and basic reporting or documentation tools.

• Strong communication skills to coordinate with supervisors, crew members, clients, and inspectors, and to clearly explain utility locations and risks.

• Ability to read and interpret utility maps, construction plans, and job tickets.

• Comfort working outdoors, walking and standing for extended periods, and lifting or carrying equipment as needed.

• Attention to detail, situational awareness, and commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to job sites in and around Fort Lauderdale, FL.

• Prior experience as a utility locator, construction worker, or related field role is preferred but not required; training may be provided.
