The City of Fort Lauderdale is looking for skilled professionals to join our team at the Fiveash Water Treatment Plant. We are seeking talented individuals to help maintain and operate our facilities as we transition to the new Prospect Lake Plant.

Job Overview

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, fabricating, and repairing mechanical equipment across various divisions, including water and wastewater treatment plants, well fields, storm stations, and pump stations. Your expertise will ensure the smooth operation of pumps, motors, valves, piping, and other critical machinery.

Essential Job Functions

• Troubleshoot, inspect, and repair mechanical equipment, including pumps and motors.
• Review equipment manuals and maintenance records to develop preventive maintenance schedules.
• Operate and care for hand and power tools for machinery maintenance and repair.
• Submit daily and weekly reports on tasks and maintenance duties.
• Aid Diesel Technicians, welders, Electricians, and Machinists, performing welding and other tasks as needed.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures.
• Read drawing specifications and manufacturer's data sheets.
• Work around medium voltage, rotating equipment, and various hazardous chemicals.
• Perform "stand-by duty" for emergency repairs as required.
• Perform related work as required.

Requirements

• High school or trade school graduate, or possess a G.E.D. certificate.
• 1-3 years of experience in mechanical maintenance and repair work.
• Ability to exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. constantly.
• Ability to lift, stoop, bend, crawl, kneel, and climb ladders up to 30 feet.
• Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.

Preferences

• Additional qualifying experience or coursework in a job-related field from an accredited college or university.
