We are a leading structural steel manufacturer located in Canton, OH, specializing in engineered pole structures for utility and infrastructure applications.

Utility Detail Engineer Role

The Utility Detail Engineer coordinates, creates, and reviews structural detailing work for utility pole designs to ensure overall manufacturability and strict adherence to design standards. This position exists to verify technical accuracy across detailed drawings, structural calculations, and bills of materials before production begins.

Utility Detail Engineer Responsibilities

• Manage detailing required to manufacture utility pole structures
• Review blueprints and detailing work from base to top, including hand holes and base plates
• Check detailing work, CAD drawings, and Bills of Material for accuracy against customer and industry standards
• Interact with sales professionals, engineers, and manufacturing team members to ensure correct design requirements
• Communicate directly with customers to obtain technical decisions and design clarifications
• Verify structural layouts using CAD and engineering design software to ensure manufacturability
• Read and interpret blueprints, bills of materials, purchase orders, and customer-submitted approval drawings
• Perform problem analysis, layout verification, and structural calculations with low variances and bearings
• Collaborate with the engineering department to ensure proper material allocation
• Maintain project schedule priorities to consistently meet project deadlines

Reporting Relationships

This role reports directly to the Engineering Manager. This position has no direct reports.

About You

• Possess a Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent technical experience preferred
• Demonstrate 3-5 years of experience in structural design detailing
• Exhibit high proficiency using AutoCAD
• Possess hands-on experience reviewing detailed drawings of structural steel poles and transmission towers
• Demonstrate strong problem-solving ability and expertise performing structural analysis and low-variance calculations
• Possess experience working with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
• Read and comprehend complex blueprints, bills of materials, and customer technical documents
• Communicate effectively through written and verbal channels with team members and customers
• Demonstrate proficiency with standard Microsoft Office applications
• Hold a valid driver's license

Physical Demands & Working Conditions: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
