Field Utility Locator

Location: Newark, DE
Shift: 7am-4pm or 8am-5pm (may change based on appointments)
** No overnight shifts / No on-call (overtime available, not required)


The Utility Locator I is a field-based position serving the Mid-Atlantic region, responsible for identifying and marking underground utilities to support safe excavation. This role helps protect crews, property, and critical infrastructure by delivering accurate locate services across a wide range of job sites.
Key Responsibilities

-Locate and mark underground utilities using electromagnetic locating equipment.
-Identify electric, gas, communications, water, sewer, irrigation, and site lighting utilities.
-Apply APWA color codes consistently to all markings.
-Verify utility locations with careful field observations and standard locating methods.
-Maintain high accuracy and quality standards on every locate request.
-Document clear and visible markings that support excavation safety.
-Recognize potential utility conflicts and adjust markings as needed.
-Follow company procedures for locate completion and site clearance.
-Support damage prevention efforts through precise and reliable field work.
-Travel daily to assigned sites throughout the coverage area.
-Work on residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal properties.
-Operate locating equipment, GPS tools, and mobile applications effectively.
-Read utility maps, service records, and fi eld documentation.
-Maintain assigned vehicle, tools, and equipment in good working order.
-Complete locate reports accurately and on time.
-Upload photos, notes, and fi eld updates as required.
-Report unusual site conditions, access issues, and utility concerns promptly.
-Maintain accurate production records and job status information.
-Follow OSHA guidelines, company policies, and safety procedures.
-Wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
-Operate a vehicle safely and follow all traffic laws.
-Use proper traffic control practices when working near roadways.
-Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, and property representatives.
-Explain utility markings clearly when questions arise.
-Coordinate effectively with supervisors and team members to support workflow.



Requirements:
-High school diploma or GED preferred.
-Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
-Ability to work independently in the fi eld.
-Basic computer and smartphone skills.
-Ability to read maps and interpret fi eld information.
-Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
-Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
-Ability to walk long distances and lift up to 50 lbs.
-Preferred Qualifications
-Previous utility locating experience.
-Knowledge of private utilities and underground infrastructure.
-Construction or fi eld service experience.
-Experience with GPS and GIS tools.
-Familiarity with APWA color code standards.
-Experience using Vivax, Radiodetection, or Subsite equipment
