    Job Description

    Maryland Masonic Homes a Continuing Care Retirement Committee located in Cockeysville, MD has an immediate opening for a Full-time Utility Mechanic/Shop Clerk. This position will work on campus and report directly to the Building Management Team.

    Essential Duties/Major Accountabilities:
    • The Utility Mechanic is responsible for general maintenance of the facility and is
    expected to perform basic maintenance duties throughout the complex with little or no
    supervision.
    • Prepares activity rooms for upcoming recreational events. Moves furniture and supplies.
    • Moves resident’s furniture and belongings as residents either enter MMH or move from
    one room to another.
    • Assists with the clearing of roads, walks, and parking areas of snow, ice, and debris.
    • Performs general maintenance duties that do not require specialized skills. Examples
    would include light bulb changes, inspections and reporting, inventory stocking and
    counting and cleaning.
    • Assists maintenance mechanics in performance of their duties where the task at hand
    requires more than one person.
    • Monitors and maintains current inventory levels; processes purchasing orders as
    required; tracks orders and investigates problems.
    • Follow purchases to verify materials needed are being provided and appropriately
    utilized.
    • Obtains parts and supplies from local vendors.
    • Processes and documents return as required, following established procedures.
    • Must have working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, and
    machinery mechanics.

    Minimum Required Qualifications:
    • High School diploma required.
    • Must have a working knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, and
    machinery mechanics.
    • Must have previous experience in maintenance.
    Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
    • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members,
    visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public.
    • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the
    willingness to handle difficult residents.
    • Must function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to
    work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
    • Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate
    them into existing practices.
    • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with less than 3 points to drive MMH
    vehicles.
    • Must be able to meet the standards of the MMH MVP Customer Service Program.
    Physical Requirements:
    • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
    • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
    • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to
    function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
    • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
    • Must be able to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, etc., in excess of 50
    pounds.
    • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
    • Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.
    • Communicates with other departments.
    • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at
    times, hostile people within the facility.

    This is a full-time position (40 hours per week & week-end rotation) with benefits to include: medical, dental & vision insurance, short & long term disability, $25,000 life insurance, 401(k) Plan with matching contributions, PTO and Sick Hours (based on the Maryland Sick & Safe Law), paid holidays

    Compensation is based on experience.
