Overview

The Utility Technician Is are responsible for the maintenance and operation of the water distribution system and wastewater collection system. Employees must remain in compliance with TCEQ and other applicable laws and regulations while working within the scope of their position.

Responsibilities

• Works with a crew to install, repair, and maintain water mains, valves, and fire hydrants. • Repair and maintain wastewater gravity and force mains, manholes, and services. • Operate hand tools, water pumps, and power saws. • Set up traffic control devices. • Perform confined space work. • Demonstrate work site safety and trench safety. • Provide customer service while performing responsibilities. • Work with a crew to perform wastewater system maintenance and cleaning. • Install meters at residential service connections. • Install and maintain AMR components. • Perform water service turn-off and turn-on duties for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. • Investigate and mitigate issues reported on the water distribution and wastewater collection systems. • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

Non-exempt - Full-Time

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement; must be available to work additional hours as needed. • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School GED • No prior experience is required

Licenses and Certifications Required

• A valid drivers license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas drivers license within 90 days of hire.

Employment Testing

Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening, which includes:

• Criminal Background Check • Motor Vehicle Record Check • Drug Screening • Physical Exam

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests in addition to the panel interview.
