Utility Worker II (Wastewater Collection)

The starting pay rate for this position is $28.42 followed by an increase to $29.84 after probation (six months).

Colorado Springs Utilities is hiring a Utility Worker II to support our Lift Station Maintenance team responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and troubleshooting systems and equipment that support the reliability and performance of our wastewater collection systems. Please note that this job will require working overtime, weekends, holidays, and 24-hour callout based on business needs.

What Will You be Doing?

  • Operating wastewater manhole and water valve box adjustment equipment (i.e., raising and lowering manholes, valves, test stations, and vaults)
  • Helping maintain and repair wastewater gravity pipelines and force mains
  • Assisting with wastewater pumping, flushing, and transporting equipment
  • Helping monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot pressure throughout the system
  • Helping inspect and maintain underground wastewater tanks
  • Maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting wastewater systems and pipelines
  • Learning to calibrate, operate, and maintain equipment

Who You Are

  • Demonstrated experience in wastewater and/or in a construction or other manual labor-type environment is valued
  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver''''s license is required
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., time entry, email communication, Microsoft Teams)
  • Ability to use hand tools and operate specialized equipment and vehicles
  • Ability to communicate effectively, collaborate, and commitment to performing work safely

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess for Heavy Work. Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, workspace restrictions and intense noises.
