MRI Technologist I - Direct Hire

Salary: $120,000 per year
Location: Galveston, TX 77555

Position Summary

The MRI Technologist I performs routine Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) procedures independently while providing direct support to physicians during diagnostic and specialized imaging procedures. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality patient care, maintaining imaging excellence, adhering to safety standards, and ensuring an exceptional patient experience.


Essential Responsibilities

Patient Care & Clinical Duties

  • Perform routine MRI and MRA procedures according to established imaging protocols.
  • Optimize imaging protocols to enhance patient care, image quality, and overall patient experience.
  • Position patients appropriately and adjust technical factors as needed to obtain diagnostic-quality images.
  • Assist physicians during diagnostic and specialized procedures, including support with sterile techniques.
  • Respond proactively to patient needs and concerns.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills to monitor patient responses and seek assistance when appropriate.
  • Ensure accurate and complete documentation of procedures and enter charges at the time services are provided.
  • Follow all MRI safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Maintain proper sterile techniques during procedures.

  • Promote a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Work effectively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, physicians, and colleagues.

  • Perform routine imaging equipment quality control (QC) checks to ensure equipment is functioning safely and effectively.
  • Report safety concerns, incidents, and near misses promptly through the appropriate reporting systems.
  • Participate in process improvement and quality initiatives.
  • Utilize resources responsibly and minimize unnecessary waste.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to safely perform MRI procedures and maintain competency through ongoing evaluation and training.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers while maintaining a customer-service-focused approach.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including experience with electronic health records, radiology information systems, PACS, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, organize workflow, and solve problems with minimal supervision.

Education & Experience

  • Completion of an accredited MRI training program.
  • Minimum of 1 year of MRI experience preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
  • MRI certification or MRI registry-eligible status at the time of hire.
  • Registry-eligible candidates must obtain MRI certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), ARMRIT, or an equivalent certifying body within six (6) months of hire.

Equipment Used

  • MRI units from various manufacturers
  • Contrast injectors
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
  • Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS)

Working Conditions

  • Standard work attire is scrubs.
  • May be required to travel to other facilities within the healthcare system.
  • Participation in on-call, weekend, holiday, emergency, and disaster response rotations may be required.
  • May be exposed to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications, and potentially combative or disoriented individuals.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to push or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk extended distances.
  • Ability to stand continuously for up to 60 minutes.
  • Ability to sit continuously for up to 60 minutes.
