    Provide a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all users of the climbing wall. Climbing Specialists must display a strong work ethic, be dependable, motivated and have the ability to work independently. Possess good teaching and communication skills. Has the ability and skills to work with participants of all ages and abilities. Experience with belay systems or previous climbing gym experience is preferred.

    Responsibilities

    • Open and close the climbing wall daily during posted hours
    • Inspect and maintain equipment prior to and after use
    • Provide a clean and organized climbing area
    • Ensure all waivers are completed and filed
    • Monitor use of wall, ensure that climber adhere to all policies, procedures and safety guidelines
    • Evaluate and monitor safe belaying abilities
    • Respond to emergency situations
    • Promotes safe climbing and bouldering techniques
    • Instructs belay clinics, lead climbing clinics, climbing movement clinics and other climbing related clinics
    • Creates, set, and maintain routes
    • Maintenance inspection and documentation of climbing equipment
    • Other duties as assigned

    This position is work study eligible, but work study is not required.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Current University of Utah student
    • Excellent people and communication skills
    • Identifies as an outdoor enthusiast
    • CPR certification or the ability to complete via in house within one month
