    Description

We"re seeking a UX Designer with deep expertise in native mobile app experiences to join our team. This role owns the end-to-end design of mobile app experiences for AWS Events, combining platform-native interaction design, UX strategy, and mobile behavioral understanding to deliver high-quality app experiences that serve customers throughout the event lifecycle. They maintain the mobile app component library, drive Aura design system adoption on mobile, and partner closely with product and engineering to ensure mobile experiences feel intentional, performant, and cohesive with the broader cross-channel journey.

Dedicated leadership of native iOS/Android app experiences for AWS Events (Summits, re:Invent, and strategic launches), including mobile app UX strategy, platform-native interaction design, Aura design system adoption, mobile component library maintenance, and cross-channel journey continuity between app, web, email, and event platforms.

    Key job responsibilities

    Mobile interaction design

    • Design native mobile navigation systems (bottom navigation, tab bars, nested navigation, contextual menus)
    • Define gesture interactions (swipe, long press, pull to refresh, pinch, drag and drop) with clear discoverability patterns
    • Design platform-native components (bottom sheets, modals, popovers, floating action buttons, segmented controls)
    • Create multi-step mobile workflows optimized for short sessions and one-handed use
    • Design error prevention, recovery flows, empty states, loading states, and success states for mobile contexts
    • Produce engineering-ready specs with interaction annotations, gesture definitions, motion specifications, and guardrails

    Mobile platform expertise

    • Apply iOS Human Interface Guidelines and Android Material Design conventions appropriately
    • Design for platform-specific capabilities (Dynamic Island, Live Activities, Widgets, SF Symbols on iOS; Material 3, predictive back, adaptive layouts on Android)
    • Account for device constraints: safe areas, thumb zones, reachability, touch targets, and one-handed usage
    • Design for mobile-specific contexts: interruptions, low connectivity, battery limitations, outdoor usage, walking usage, and short attention spans
    • Leverage native device features (camera, QR scanning, GPS, biometrics, calendar integration, wallet passes) where they improve the experience

    Mobile app strategy and engagement

    • Design onboarding and activation flows (first-run experience, progressive onboarding, permission requests, time-to-value optimization)
    • Design notification strategy and in-app messaging aligned with user lifecycle stages
    • Support deep linking and universal link experiences for seamless channel transitions
    • Design for returning sessions, state preservation, and multi-device continuity
    • Define mobile-specific UX success metrics (activation rate, session depth, retention, task completion)

    AI and intelligent mobile experiences

    • Design AI-powered mobile interactions including conversational UX, personalized recommendations, and predictive actions
    • Apply context-awareness patterns and agentic workflows to mobile surfaces
    • Design for AI transparency, confidence indicators, and graceful error recovery on mobile

    Mobile design system contribution

    • Maintain and evolve the mobile app component library in Figma
    • Ensure platform parity between iOS and Android implementations
    • Define adaptive components, responsive behavior, and theme support (including dark mode)
    • Document mobile-specific patterns with usage guidance and implementation specs
    • Align mobile components to Aura design system tokens and standards
    • Support motion specifications and micro-interaction definitions for mobile

    Mobile research and validation

    • Design and run mobile usability testing (on-device testing, field research)
    • Interpret mobile analytics (session recordings, heatmaps, funnel analysis, journey analysis)
    • Conduct competitive analysis of mobile app experiences and emerging platform patterns
    • Iterate rapidly based on beta testing feedback and A/B experiment results
    • Apply mobile behavioral psychology (cognitive load management, Fitts" Law, progressive disclosure, recognition over recall)

    Cross-channel continuity

    • Design seamless transitions between mobile app, web, email, and event platforms
    • Ensure the mobile app experience is cohesive with the broader customer journey (registration, schedule building, venue navigation, livestreaming, post-event engagement)
    • Contribute mobile-first thinking to responsive web patterns and email templates

    A day in the life

As a UX Designer focused on mobile apps, you"ll spend your days designing native iOS and Android experiences for AWS Events. Your typical activities include:

    • Designing mobile-native interaction patterns, flows, and layouts optimized for touch and real-world mobile contexts
    • Maintaining and evolving the mobile app Figma component library with platform-appropriate patterns
    • Creating interactive prototypes for mobile usability testing (on-device validation)
    • Partnering closely with mobile engineering on feasibility, platform conventions, and implementation specs
    • Collaborating with Product Managers on feature prioritization, activation metrics, and mobile roadmap
    • Participating in group creative critiques and presenting mobile design rationale to stakeholders
    • Conducting competitive analysis of mobile app experiences and platform capability updates (WWDC, Google I/O)
    • Contributing mobile components and patterns back to the Aura design system
    • Supporting cross-channel design work by bringing mobile-first thinking to responsive web and email

During periods between major event cycles, this designer maintains and evolves the mobile component library, contributes to Aura design system development, conducts platform research, and supports other channels with mobile expertise.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
