Diverse Agile Solutions (DAS) is a certified MBE/SBE/DBE technology services firm specializing in IT staffing, Agile transformation, cloud, cybersecurity, DevSecOps, software development, and enterprise technology modernization.

We are seeking an experienced UX Engineer Level 2 to join our team supporting a major New York State (NYS) technology initiative. The ideal candidate will bring strong UX engineering, user research, design thinking, and front-end development experience, with the ability to collaborate effectively with business stakeholders, developers, and technical teams.

Position Overview

The UX Engineer Level 2 will work as part of a team of problem solvers to understand business goals, identify user needs, and develop user-centered technology solutions.

The consultant will support the full UX lifecycle—from user research and journey mapping through wireframing, prototyping, usability testing, implementation, and ongoing application support.

Experience working within an Integrated Eligibility System (IES) program or a Health and Human Services (HHS) environment is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team members, business stakeholders, and technical teams to understand business objectives and solve complex business problems.
  • Design, develop, and implement client-facing and internal applications supporting NYS strategic initiatives.
  • Apply enterprise architecture concepts across application areas to develop delivery models that align technology capabilities with NYS business needs.
  • Gather and analyze information from multiple sources, incorporating stakeholder perspectives into UX solutions and recommendations.
  • Address application defects and enhancements throughout the application support lifecycle.
  • Participate in incident resolution and post-implementation support activities as required.
  • Develop and execute user research plans, including:
    • Surveys
    • User interviews
    • Focus groups
    • Other qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Analyze user research findings and communicate results and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Plan and facilitate design-thinking workshops, including:
    • Journey mapping
    • User needs modeling
    • Persona development
    • Other collaborative UX activities
  • Create UX deliverables including:
    • User models and scenarios
    • User stories
    • User flows
    • Wireframes
    • Interactive prototypes
    • Mockups
    • Storyboards
    • Sitemaps
    • Journey maps
  • Plan and conduct usability testing.
  • Analyze user feedback, behavioral data, and activity metrics to identify opportunities for improving the user experience.
  • Iterate on designs based on research, testing, stakeholder feedback, and quantitative UX metrics.
  • Work closely with software developers to translate designs into functional applications.
  • Assist with content development and information architecture.
  • Develop and iterate on coded prototypes when needed to validate or improve UX solutions.
  • Collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative UX metrics to support usability validation and design decisions.
  • Design experiences that work effectively across multiple devices and platforms, including:
    • Responsive web applications
    • iOS
    • Android
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • 7+ years of professional experience working on complex technology projects.
  • 2+ years of experience in a leadership role as a UX Engineer.
  • 7+ years of experience in UI/UX engineering across the full lifecycle of UX design deliverables.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and implementing:
    • Wireframes
    • Mockups
    • Journey maps
    • Prototypes
    • Storyboards
    • User surveys
    • User flows
    • User stories
  • 1–2 years of experience working on an Integrated Eligibility System (IES) program in one or more workstreams within a Health and Human Services (HHS) environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience with Adobe Creative Suite and/or Figma.
  • 2–5 years of experience with:
    • User research
    • User modeling
    • Usability testing
  • 2–5 years of experience with:
    • HTML5
    • CSS3
    • JavaScript
  • Experience working with Agile/Scrum development teams.
  • Experience collaborating with developers throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Experience designing responsive, multi-device applications.
  • Experience supporting large-scale government or enterprise technology initiatives.
  • Experience working with complex business processes and enterprise applications.

Remote Work / Telecommuting

Consultants may be eligible to telecommute for more than 50% of their work hours, up to and including 100% remote work, subject to direct manager approval and program requirements.

Consultants approved for 100% remote work must:

  • Attend monthly in-person meetings at the Albany, NY office.
  • Be available to attend major milestone meetings in person when required.
  • Maintain flexibility based on program and business needs.

Telecommuting arrangements are subject to change based on program requirements.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a senior UX professional who can operate comfortably between UX strategy, user research, interaction design, prototyping, and front-end development.

You should be comfortable working with business stakeholders to understand complex requirements, translating those requirements into user-centered solutions, validating designs through research and usability testing, and partnering with developers to bring those designs into production.

Experience supporting New York State, Integrated Eligibility Systems, Medicaid, Health and Human Services, or other large government technology programs is strongly preferred.
