We are seeking an experienced UX Engineer – Level II to support the Fair Hearings (FH) project within a Health and Human Services environment. The consultant will collaborate with business stakeholders, developers, and cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement user-centered applications that support New York State's strategic initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in UX engineering, user research, usability testing, prototyping, and full-lifecycle design delivery, along with experience supporting Integrated Eligibility System (IES) programs.
Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to understand business objectives, identify challenges, and develop solutions from strategy through execution.
Design, develop, and implement client-facing and internal applications, along with technology tools that support New York State strategic initiatives.
Apply enterprise architecture principles across application areas to develop delivery models aligned with business capabilities and requirements.
Gather and analyze information from multiple sources, including stakeholder feedback, to develop solutions and recommendations.
Address application defects and enhancements throughout the application support lifecycle.
Participate in post-implementation incident resolution as required.
Develop and execute user research plans, including surveys, interviews, and focus groups, and communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders.
Plan and facilitate design-thinking workshops, including journey mapping and user-needs modeling.
Create UX deliverables, including user models, scenarios, sketches, user stories, user flows, interactive prototypes, wireframes, storyboards, and sitemaps.
Plan and conduct usability testing, analyze user feedback and activity, and continuously improve user experiences through iterative design.
Work closely with developers to translate designs into functional applications.
Support content development and create or refine code-based prototypes to improve design solutions.
Collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative UX metrics to validate usability and design effectiveness.
Design user experiences for multiple platforms and devices, including web, iOS, and Android.
Perform other duties as assigned.
UX Engineering Experience: More than 7 years of experience working on complex projects, including at least 2 years in a leadership role as a UX Engineer.
UI/UX Design: 7 or more years of experience in UI/UX engineering across the full design lifecycle, including wireframes, mockups, journey maps, prototypes, storyboards, and user surveys.
Integrated Eligibility Systems: 1–2 years of experience working on an Integrated Eligibility System (IES) program in various workstreams, including Fair Hearings, within a Health and Human Services environment.
7 or more years of experience with Adobe Creative Suite or Figma.
2–5 years of experience in user research, user modeling, and usability testing.
2–5 years of experience with CSS3, HTML5, and JavaScript.
The standard work schedule requires 50% onsite and 50% remote work at the New York, NY location.
