Job description:
  • This senior-level position is responsible for orchestrating and delivering complex UX research projects and programs from inception to completion. The Research Program Manager serves as the primary architect of research initiatives, combining deep UX research expertise with program management acumen to drive successful outcomes. They are tasked with developing comprehensive project plans that encompass research design, methodology selection, resource allocation, and timeline management while ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and user-centered design standards.
  • The role demands expertise in leading multidisciplinary research teams—including researchers, designers, product managers, and other stakeholders—while fostering a collaborative environment that promotes innovation and research excellence. Key responsibilities include establishing project milestones, managing research budgets, implementing risk management strategies, and ensuring compliance with research protocols, data privacy requirements, and ethical AI governance frameworks. The manager oversees research operations, coordinates cross-functional activities, and maintains quality control measures throughout the research lifecycle.

Research Operations & Workflow Management
The Research Program Manager owns the operational mechanics of the research team—the tools, processes, systems, templates, and day-to-day workflow management that keep research running efficiently. Core responsibilities include:
  • Managing the end-to-end research intake process, including triaging incoming research requests, routing and assigning tasks to appropriate research owners, and ensuring requests have the necessary information before advancing
  • Monitoring project progress across the research portfolio, proactively identifying and escalating blockers, and ensuring research moves forward on schedule
  • Leading research planning and status review meetings, providing visibility into priorities, and facilitating cross-functional alignment
  • Defining and enforcing the Definition of Done—ensuring all research deliverables are completed, reviewed, documented, and archived appropriately
  • Managing stakeholder communication protocols, including response time expectations, blocker escalation procedures, and coordination with product and design partners

Asana & Tooling Expertise
  • Proficiency in Asana is required. The Research Program Manager is responsible for setting up and administering Asana projects, templates, and automation rules; enhancing Asana features to improve team productivity; providing training and troubleshooting for the team; and maintaining intake forms that capture effective triage information. Asana serves as the source of truth for all research work, and this role ensures that all projects are properly tracked, visible, and actionable within the platform.

AI Experience & Innovation
  • Critical to this position is the ability to identify, develop, and scale AI-powered tools and workflows that benefit the research and design organization—including tooling for synthesis, reporting, metadata querying, insight tracking, and research discoverability.
  • The incumbent is expected to build and maintain AI agents, automated reporting pipelines, and knowledge architectures that reduce researcher administrative overhead and accelerate time-to-insight.
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging generative AI, machine learning tools, and AI-assisted moderation and analysis within the UX research lifecycle is essential.
Communication & Strategic Impact
  • The role requires the ability to monitor and communicate project progress effectively, preparing detailed reports for stakeholders and senior leadership while making strategic adjustments as needed.
  • Strong analytical skills are required for evaluating research outcomes, measuring program impact through quantitative metrics, and identifying opportunities for program expansion.
  • The incumbent must maintain productive relationships with external collaborators, vendors, and cross-organizational partners while contributing to the organization's long-term research strategy.
Qualifications
  • The position demands advanced knowledge of UX research methodology, research operations best practices, and AI integration within the research and design lifecycle.
  • Proficiency in Asana for project management and workflow orchestration is required. Familiarity with ethical AI principles—including human oversight, transparency, interpretability, and alignment with data privacy policies—is required.
  • Success in this role requires exceptional leadership abilities, strong communication skills, and demonstrated expertise in delivering complex research programs at scale.
Scope & Autonomy
  • The Research Program Manager operates with considerable autonomy, exercising independent judgment to make strategic decisions while reporting to the Research leader. This position combines research operations rigor with program management excellence, requiring both technical expertise in AI-enabled research workflows and strong leadership capabilities to successfully drive research initiatives forward.
  • The role offers significant opportunity for creativity and innovation—particularly in pioneering AI-augmented research practices—while maintaining strict adherence to ethical, scientific, and operational standards.
