About the Role

The UX/Consumer Insights Researcher IV will lead mixed-method research initiatives that help shape the customer journey for next-generation consumer technology products. This role combines UX research, consumer insights, and market research methodologies to generate actionable insights into how consumers discover, evaluate, purchase, and engage with innovative hardware experiences.

The successful candidate will partner closely with cross-functional teams across Product, Design, Marketing, Retail, and Go-to-Market organizations to plan and execute end-to-end research that informs product strategy, customer experience, and business decisions. This individual will thrive in a fast-paced environment, conducting both field and retail research while translating complex consumer behaviors into clear, data-driven recommendations that influence product development and go-to-market strategies.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a self-directed mixed-method researcher with deep experience conducting primary consumer research in technology or consumer electronics environments. They are comfortable leading studies from inception through execution, synthesizing complex findings into actionable recommendations, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to influence product and go-to-market strategy.

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Recent hands-on experience conducting primary research, including surveys, interviews, focus groups, and field research—not solely secondary research or program management.
  • Strong domain expertise within consumer technology, consumer electronics, wearables, retail, or shopper insights. Experience focused exclusively on academic research or hardware/XR engineering research without consumer insights experience is less applicable.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex research programs while effectively communicating with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • High-quality, well-structured resumes that clearly showcase research ownership, methodologies, business impact, and measurable outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute end-to-end mixed-method research using qualitative and quantitative methodologies, including surveys, interviews, focus groups, diary studies, product evaluations, and field research.
  • Lead consumer and retail research to understand shopping behaviors, purchase drivers, customer decision-making, and product adoption.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Marketing, Retail, and cross-functional stakeholders to define research objectives, project scope, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Develop research plans, questionnaires, discussion guides, screeners, and study protocols.
  • Conduct field research at retail locations and consumer environments to capture real-world customer insights.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative datasets to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities.
  • Translate research findings into clear, compelling presentations and strategic recommendations that influence product development and go-to-market initiatives.
  • Manage multiple concurrent research projects while balancing execution speed with research rigor.
  • Collaborate with external research vendors to support study execution and maintain research quality.
  • Leverage AI-powered research tools to improve research efficiency, synthesis, and reporting.
  • Maintain research documentation and contribute to organizational knowledge repositories.

Must Have Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience conducting UX research, consumer insights, market research, or human-centered research.
  • Experience leading end-to-end primary research using mixed-method approaches with strong quantitative research capabilities.
  • Experience designing surveys, conducting statistical analysis, and synthesizing research findings into actionable business recommendations.
  • Experience moderating interviews, focus groups, usability studies, and field research.
  • Experience partnering with Product, Design, Marketing, or Business teams to influence strategic decisions.
  • Experience managing multiple research initiatives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Experience working with external research vendors.
  • Experience utilizing AI-powered research tools to improve research workflows.
  • Excellent written, verbal, storytelling, and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience conducting research within consumer electronics, wearable technology, retail, e-commerce, or consumer technology industries.
  • Experience with shopper insights, retail research, consumer journey mapping, or purchase behavior research.
  • Knowledge of advanced quantitative methodologies such as conjoint analysis, TURF analysis, segmentation, and tracking studies.
  • Experience working within large technology companies or highly matrixed organizations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Human Factors, Sociology, Anthropology, Marketing Research, Statistics, or a related field. Advanced degree is preferred.
