Job Title: Health Service Specialist Reports To: Associate Superintendent, Administration/Student Services FLSA Status: Classified Revised Date: March 26, 2009

JOB GOAL To assist school personnel i n providing maximum educational opportunities for all students by protecting and promoting their health.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Does assist in the implementation of the Ohio School Code for obtaining required physical, dental, and immunization reports. Does maintain cumulative health records on all students in assigned schools. Does review and interpret medical and dental reports, including immunization status. Does aid in the selection and referral of students in need of medical care. Does administer first aid in accordance with recommended first aide procedures and assists in arrangement of transportation. Does conduct vision and hearing testing as recommended by the state. Does help children of indigent families with health needs. Does transport children to clinics, physicians, homes or to other health related facilities when necessary. Does present health information to students and parents. Does attend inservice training programs, wor kshops, conferences, and other professional meetings. Does prepare and submit reports as necessary. Does perform other tasks which may from time to time be assigned by the director, pupil personnel services.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must be certified in the state of Ohio Board of Nursing Education and Nurse Registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, colle agues and administration. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, agencies, teachers or members of the school community.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements a nd Board of Education policies.
